Dropping to my knees, I cradle her body to my chest.
“I’m so sorry,” I whisper into her hair. “I’m so sorry.”
I hold her for a long time before taking her into my shadows. Then I walk back miserably to Molly and tell hermy goodbyes too.
Without the blood staining her body and the bed, she could almost look peaceful.
Peaceful…
The word mocks me.
A twisted cry of pain escapes me.
Peaceful.
I wanted peace.
But Aleric...all he wants is death and pain.
Cradling Molly in my shadows, I rejoin her with her sister, then walk hollowly back to my house. I might not be able to do anything for my girls now, but Delilah needs me. She needs –
I stop at the start of my drive.
Delilah no longer screams.
No longer cries in pain for her husband and daughter.
She no longer moves at all.
She just lies in a pool of blood, her own throat slashed, a bloody knife loose in her fingers.
“I’m bleeding.”
“Where?”
“Here.”
She saw her death by her own hand.
No…
ByAleric’shand.
He caused all this.
Hedidall this.
My body shaking, I let the rage build.
I’m going to kill that fucking psycho.
I don’t care if Ihaveto sell my soul to do it.
