She smiles up at me. I know it means a lot to her that I asked her dad’s permission.

“You remember what I told you, Em?” I do this from time to time, just to remind her she’s mine, and because I like the story so much. “All those years ago?”

She laughs waving her diamond around in the air. “That you love me, and it will only be me, forever.”

“That’s the one.”

She is the one, and I’m so fucking happy I want to jump on the moon.

Looking at her now, both of our hearts beating as one, engaged to the love of my life, I know we will never let it slip away again.

We started here all those years ago when we were young, and the fact we ended here is better than any wish I could have ever dreamed of.
