Fuck.
Grabbing my phone, I called the clubhouse.
“What?” someone angrily answered.
“Uh, this is Shadow. Is Kansas or Pence around?”
“Nope. They fucking left about five minutes ago, along with half the club. What the fuck do you want?”
“I’m at the Farmer’s Market with Vivi. I found her hunched over in her truck. Her head is bleeding. What do you want me to do?”
“Shit,” the brother cursed. “Yo, Trigger. Come, take this. I have to head to the Market and check on Vivi and Kali!”
“Kali isn’t here. She went with that detective.”
“The fuck did you just say?” another voice said, which I assumed was Trigger.
“She left with the detective about a minute ago.”
“Motherfucker! You need to follow them, Shadow. The club is looking for him. He’s the one who’s been doing all the killing. I can’t leave because I was told to watch the kids. You can’t let anything happen to Kali. Kansas will destroy the whole fucking state if she’s harmed.”
Laying Vivi down across the cab of her truck, I closed the door and ran for my bike. “Send someone to the market to get Vivi. She needs to see a doctor. I’ll call back when I find them.”
Hanging up, I jumped on my bike and started it up, just as my sister walked outside. I didn’t say anything, as I peeled out of the parking lot.
It didn’t take me long to catch up with the beige sedan.
Staying far enough back, I followed the vehicle for miles when, about an hour after I left the parking lot, the sedan slowed, turning down a dirt road. Pulling off to the side of the road, I pulled out my phone to call the clubhouse when I saw I didn’t have a signal.
“Fuck.”
Looking around, I couldn’t see anything but farm fields for miles and miles. I had no fucking clue where I was, but I knew I couldn’t leave Kali. If I did, Kansas would definitely kill me dead with a fucking smile on his face. Doing the only thing I could, I parked my bike on the side of the road. I hated the idea of leaving it there, but it was the only option I had. Pocketing my keys, I reached into my saddlebag and noticed my hands shaking.
Taking a deep breath, I looked once more around me. Hoping, praying for someone to drive by. Anyone who could get a message to the Diamondback M.C.
Knowing no one was coming, I took a deep breath. “You can do this,Zeke.”
Reaching into my saddlebag, I grabbed my guns.
The familiar weight of them soothed something deep inside me. My hands curled around the butt of my guns. My grip tightened as an air of peace curled around me. Looking down the long dirt road, I heard his voice in my head. She needs you. Save her. Tell Jinx I love her.
“Okay, man. I hear you,” I muttered to no one.
Tucking one of my guns in the back of my jeans, I held the other one in my right hand as I made my way down the long dirt road.
Chapter Six
Shadow
Making my way down the long dirt road, I spotted an old barn barely standing in an open field. Running as fast as I could towards it, I heard pipes off in the distance. I knew they were too far off. Part of me wanted to wait for them. To let the Diamondbacks go in there and deal with whatever was going on inside the barn. But I knew that was impossible. Even though I could hear them coming, they were still minutes away. Minutes Kali didn’t have.
Plus, Jinx’s voice was screaming at me to hurry.
Peering around the entrance to the barn, I saw the detective staring in shock as a man held Kali against an old wooden table. She wasn’t fighting him, as he rushed to unbuckle his pants. I fucking knew what was going to happen next. I wasn’t stupid.
When I saw him cut her, something inside me snapped. Kali was a sweet woman. A mother. A wife. She’d lost so much already, and I wasn’t going to let this motherfucker take something else from her.
That’s when all reason fled.
