With a thud the crystal fell, the point making a hole in the map. The sisters joined their heads together to read the address out loud. The human worked on his phone and showed them a picture of the location.

“Looks like a warehouse.” Pilar hummed under her breath.

“Well, that’s very villainous.” Marnie nodded. “Hiding out at an abandoned warehouse. Dad was never really creative.”

I grabbed the map from the floor, trying to memorize it. I nodded to myself and started making my way downstairs.

“Vic,” Pilar called, running to my side.

“He’s there, right?” I arched an eyebrow. “I’ll get him.”

“Can we stop for a second and plan something?” she asked me breathlessly as she jogged down the stairs trying to keep up with me.

“The longer they are above, the longer they can bring hell to this realm.” I stopped and looked square into her eyes.

“I know…” She brushed her hair out of her face. “But you can’t just go out there, Vic.”

“Why not?” I sighed.

“Well, first you have horns and furry legs.”

My nostrils flared, irritated because she was right. I couldn’t just walk around in the above.

“Just wait until tomorrow. Just let me think how we can get you there and then we can go and confront them or whatever.”

“I’ll bring them to hell.”

Pilar sighed. “Marnie is right, you talk too much about death.”

She was smiling when she said it, a little smirk coming from her beautiful lips. Knowing the power she had over me, she came closer, her hands taking mine and bringing them to her chest.

“I want to catch them too. I just don’t want to do something that can hurt you.”

“I’m not alive, Pilar.” I shook my head. “I can’t get hurt.”

But even as I said it, it felt like a lie. I couldn’t get hurt in the underworld. Here it was different. In fact, every second that ticked away I felt a wound getting deeper in my chest.

“A few days ago you didn’t know you had a soul,” Pilar insisted.

“That’s different.”

“Is it?” She blinked at me, fear obvious in her eyes. “He killed my mother. I don’t want him to take anyone else from me.”

I growled, stepped closer to her, and brought my other hand to her chin. “No one will ever take you away from me.”

“So come to bed with me, Vic,” she whispered. “Come lay in my small bed and hold me tonight and tomorrow we’ll drag him to hell.”

I removed my hand from her chest, noticing I had blood on my fingers from her cut. I licked them clean and Pilar sighed.

I was always kneeling for her.

“Very well,” I agreed.

He barely fit in my bed. His horns scraped the headboard and his frame was so large I slept on top of him. His whole persona loomed too large for the above. I couldn’t keep a god in San Francisco.

But we were here now, brought back by Marnie, and I still haven’t dared to tell her I was going back with Vic.

She was alone for a month, scared for her life, wondering where all of us disappeared. She gathered all her power, proving she was a true Morales when she was able not only to pull me from the underworld but its god too.
