I stopped and looked at her. “You think your sisters’ soulmates are Brumas?”

She lifted her shoulder. “I don’t know. It all happened so fast that night. Marnie told us we were meeting our soulmates during All Hallows’ Eve. It now makes sense that our soulmates are supernatural, the tug felt so strong during that night.”

“Adrian wasn’t brought out there for love.” I huffed, finding myself clothes to cover my nakedness, a loincloth was there just waiting for me.

She shook the moment her father’s name was spoken and I hated myself for it. All life disappeared from her face at once. “Vic, we need to find him. He’s dangerous.”

“I’ll hunt him down,” I promised, placing a kiss on her forehead.

He was dangerous and his target was her family, I would bet my afterlife on that fact. I had to bring him back and I had to do it fast.

Something shook inside the room and my ears perked.

“Stay behind me,” I instructed her as I took a step toward the noise.

But soon it was clear it wasn’t just a random noise, but reality shaking around us.

“Vic…” The fearful tone of her voice made me turn.

Pilar was looking at her own hands, they were flickering like something glitching.

“What the—”

We were pulled from the underworld before I got to say hell.

The walls of my home shook with our arrival. My eyes stung when I looked at our furniture, the dark green walls, and the centenary pictures above our mantel.

In front of me, Vicious roared like he had never roared before. A caged animal made by rage, something unnatural not meant for this realm.

The walls shook again, and then suddenly my eyes were on him as a chair flew in his direction and he slapped it out of the way, turning it into sticks by the fireplace.

Hey! I liked that chair.

I was annoyed that my chair was in pieces when a scream, from a voice I knew pretty well, rose the hairs on my arms.

“Stop!” I yelled, stepping from Vic’s back and looking straight at my sister.

Marnie looked terrified, her mouth agape, the curls on her head sticking out in all directions as Grayson held her by her waist trying to keep her safe.

“God, Pilar!” she gasped, trying to get to me but Grayson kept her firmly in place. “Pilar, come here.”

Vic roared again when Marnie extended her hand to me, his hooves stomping the wooden floor so loudly that Marnie and Grayson winced.

I shook my head, rolling my eyes, and slapped his stomach. “Stop it!” I turned to my sister, holding back a smile. “Hey Marnie, this is Vic. My husband.”

She looked at me like she couldn’t connect my words to what she was seeing, her tongue practically lolling out of her mouth. I turned to Vic with patience. “Be nice, that’s my sister.”

He squared his shoulders, still looking grumpy as ever. “Which one?”

“The soulmate seeing one,” I said. “I can’t believe you broke that chair. I liked that chair.”

“You preferred that I let the human hurt you?” he arched an eyebrow.

“Grayson wasn’t trying to hurt Pilar.” Marnie seemed to find her voice once again.

Her face was fierce as she defended her soulmate, a crease in her brow as she lashed at someone almost double her size.

Before Vic could reply, I ran to her arms, making her lose her balance with the force of my embrace. She smelled like home and baked goods, just like I remembered, and my eyes filled with tears.
