Smart. He was in a dark mood and had no ability to show mercy.
A fist hit his arm, followed by a foot to his leg. It barely penetrated his black fury. It wasn’t until he reached his Corvette that he felt the sting at his side.
He turned. “Did you just pinch me?”
“Yes, and I’ll do a hell of a lot more than that if you don’t let me go!” Her cheeks were red, and her chest heaved.
“I’m taking you home.”
“Excuse me? You’re taking me home? What am I, your pet? I don’t do what you say!”
He stepped closer, so close his chest almost touched hers. Her eyes widened. “I am barely holding on to my restraint right now, Angel. Push me, and I’ll snap.”
She laughed. “This is you showing restraint? You’re basically a metropolitan Tarzan. Wouldn’t want to see what theunrestrainedErik looks like.”
“No. You wouldn’t.”
She crossed her arms, and it took too much strength tonotlook at the way the movement pushed her breasts up against the low-cut top. “You think I’m afraid of you? I’m not.”
“Maybe you should be.”
She lifted a brow. “Why? Because you’re so big and scary?”
“Because I’m dangerous. And that guy you were just dancing with? He’sjustas fucking dangerous. Believe me when I tell you, you arenotsafe with him.”
She swallowed, the first bit of understanding seeming to slip into her expression. “Am I safe with you?”
No. Hell fucking no. No safer than he was with her. Because something told him they could destroy each other.
“I would never hurt you.” Not physically.
Her brows flickered.
He tried to soften his voice, not entirely sure it worked. “Let me take you home, Hannah. You’re drunk and tired.”
“I am neither of those things.” On cue, she swayed, and he grabbed her arm. “Okay. Maybe I’m a little drunk, and a tiny bit tired, but I’m a single woman who’s allowed to have a good time. And I know you don’t want me around him, but I’m also capable of fighting my own battles. It just so happens, I didn’t want his kiss, and I was fully willing to push him away myself.”
“Didn’t look that way to me.” Marco had been an inch away from planting his mouth on hers.
Erik’s focus lowered to her lips…lips he’d kissed just two days ago. Lips that had destroyed him with a single touch.
His gaze rose to find her eyes on him. His cock hardened. It was a damn effort not to kiss her a second time.
His muscles ached with tension as he stepped back and opened the passenger door. “Get in.” When the heat left her eyes, and the stubborn tilt of her chin returned, he forced his voice to soften for a second time. “Please.”
“Hannah.” They both turned to see Henry striding toward them, Hannah’s purse in his hand. His eyes were narrowed on Erik as he spoke to her. “Are you okay?”
Two beats of silence. Then she sighed. “Yes. I’m okay. Thank you for bringing my purse.”
He handed it to her before finally looking her way. “You sure? I can take you home if you’d like.”
Erik’s body tensed. He was ready to argue with them both, when Hannah shook her head. “No. It’s okay. You go back in and finish your night. We can chat tomorrow.”
He nodded, then gave Erik one more glare of warning before turning back.
Hannah grabbed the door, but before sliding in, she looked up at Erik. “Do not mistake this for me being some pushover you can bully into doing things.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” The words were muttered under his breath, but by the glare she gave him, she heard just fine.
