The way he ignited my body to the point that it no longer belonged to me but was his completely to do with as he saw fit.
It’s enough to drive a sane woman mad.
And then when his men arrived, the dark king returned—ever the pompous ass.
I still can’t believe I let him treat me that way.
I’m his queen, not some harlot he can use and abuse and then discard.
Rage like no other begins to course through my veins, making me spring out of my bed and put on my coat. Levi, like everyone else at camp, is probably asleep at this late hour, but I don’t care.
He’s going to get a piece of my mind.
I run toward the tent’s entrance, only to take a huge step back when I come face to face with the man I was intent on waking up. The menacing expression on his face has me calling out to my guards, only to find them all lying in the dirt.
Fearing he’s come to kill me or worse, I turn around and grab the first weapon I see, a dinner knife on top of the dining table Levi and I shared our meals at. When I turn around to face him, he’s already on me, disarming me with ease and putting the knife to my neck.
“Is this why you’re here? To kill me?” I scold with all the venom I can conjure.
“No.”
“Liar! Did you kill my guards?” I spit out.
“No.”
“Another lie! I saw them on the ground!”
“They’ll wake up with a mean migraine, but assure you, they’ll live,” he explains with that smirk of his that is both aggravating as it is sexy as hell.
“So if you’re not here to kill me, then what do you want?”
“What I’ve always wanted. You.”
And then to my shock, Levi takes the knife to my nightgown and shreds it down the middle, leaving me completely bare to him.
“Much better.” He licks his lips.
I slap his cheek as hard as I can, but I doubt he even feels it. I, on the other hand, feel like my palm is on fire.
“Tsk. Tsk, Kat. Haven’t you ever heard that you should only pick on people your own size?” he teases, and then he grabs my wrist, only to place a tender kiss at the center of my palm.
His emerald gaze is set on fire when he begins to trail it over my entire body.
“Levi—” I start, my whole body beginning to tremble with the same need I see in his eyes.
It’s his name on my lips that brings his attention back to my face.
“Whatever you’re thinking of doing, don’t.”
“And what exactly do you think I’m about to do?” He smirks, running the knife between my breasts, the cold steel sending shivers through my body.
“You’re going to finish what you started… back in the woods,” I state, doing everything in my power to keep my voice strong.
“Are you saying you don’t want me to?” he counters, his brow raised high on his forehead.
Am I saying that?
“Are you saying that you haven’t spent every little second since we returned wondering what could have happened if my men had arrived just an hour later?”
