He turned around to face me and smiled. “It’s a surprise.” His eyes roamed down my body and he smiled mischievously. “And wear whatever you want. I know you don’t care for the fancy stuff.”

He disappeared around the side of the house, and I listened to his engine rev. Once I knew he was gone, I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and texted Miles.

Me: It’s done. I’m headed over to your place.

By the time I walked inside, he messaged back.

Miles: That was fast. What do you want to do tonight?

A smile spread across my face as so many thoughts filtered through my mind.

Me: I’m sure we’ll figure something out.

Even though it pained my heart to hurt Cohen, it also freed me. Nothing could hold me back from Miles now; I could be with him in every way possible without feeling guilty.

There was so much excitement coursing through my veins that I could barely keep my hands steady on the steering wheel. As I pulled up to Miles’s beach house rental, I could feel the butterflies in my stomach fluttering faster and faster. The anticipation of finally being with him was palpable, and all my senses were heightened.

I parked my car in the driveway and breathed deeply to try and calm myself down. But as soon as I got out of the vehicle, Miles was waiting for me at the top of the stairs, shirtless and wearing only a pair of khaki shorts.

My heart skipped a beat at the sight of him.

He smiled and I couldn’t help but stare at him for a few moments. All I could think about was how I couldn’t wait to feel his rough hands on my skin, smell the scent of his cologne, and hear his voice as he whispered in my ear.

“Hey there, sunshine,” he said as he descended the stairs, his outstretched hand eagerly reaching for mine.

As soon as our fingers twined together, I was hit with an electric wave that shot up my arm and spread throughout my body.

Grabbing my hand more firmly, he pulled me up the rest of the stairs and folded me into his embrace. His gaze afire, full of emotion, made me tremble from head to toe.

“You’re mine again. How does that feel?”

I slipped my arms around his neck and moved closer until our lips almost touched. “It feels great,” I murmured softly against his mouth.

His smirk showed me what he had in mind for us; it matched what I wanted, too.

“What do you want to do?” he asked, his voice low and husky.

I moved my gaze to his lips and then back to his eyes. “I don’t want to waste any more time.”

The sound of waves crashing against the shore only heightened the anticipation between us. Miles leaned in for a kiss, and I melted into his embrace. His lips felt like sweet nectar on mine, and I was lost in the moment, consumed by my desire for him.

We moved inside, and Miles pulled me into the bedroom. The room was dimly lit, but some sunlight shone through the window. He kissed me passionately, and I could feel his warmth enveloping me.

Miles lifted me up and gently placed me on the bed. He looked down at me, his eyes so full of emotion that I could feel the burn behind mine.

“I love you so much, Nyla. I keep thinking this is a dream.”

I cupped his cheeks and rubbed my thumb over his lips. “Oh, no. This is real. And I’m going to enjoy every minute of it.”

He chuckled lightly and kissed me again. “So am I.”

Being with Miles again for the first time in all these years was even more passionate than before; it was exhilarating. Nothing was holding us back. It was just me and him and our love for each other.
