“Anything for you, beautiful.” I hang up the phone and start to walk away only to be pulled back into a chest.

“Who did you call?”

“Let me go, Loyal.” I turn and yank myself away from him.

“Who did you call?” His face hardens as I glare at him.

“None of your fucking business.” I turn and start walking and for once, I don’t hear any footsteps behind me. I make it out front of the school with two-minutes to spare, and of course, I hear the doors open again.

“Brin, where are you going?”

“Come on, swamp princess, come back inside.”

Kingston and Blaise. I turn and glare at them. Not being able to hold back tears any longer. “Fuck you, Kingston. You knew the other night I thought you were Blaise, and it didn’t fucking occur to you to tell me it was you.” I feel the tears leaking from my eyes and strangely, Blaise is the one who hurt me the most. “And you told me you loved me, Blaise. I thought that I was finally getting to have the one person I have been in love with my entire life, finally love me back, only to find out it was all a lie. So, both of you can fuck right off.”

I hear the purr of his car before a door slams and Blaise’s eyes widened. “You called him!”

“At least he is not a liar.” I snap, wiping the tears from my face.

“Brinley, if you miss school you will be expelled.” Kingston states.

“Besides Mr. Brooks, I have turned in my work for a week, and I have sick days, so both of you can fuck off!”

I turn to Damien, seeing him leaning against his car with a look of interest in his eyes. “Hey, gorgeous. You ready?”

“Yes, and thank you.” Damien moves to open the passenger door and I slide into it. Before Damien closes the door, I look at Blaise. “Last chance, Blaise. Please tell me, say something to make this okay, please.” I wait, hoping he will pick up the pieces of my heart and tell me that this was some cruel joke.

Shaking his head, he frowns before he looks at Damien. “Brin, have a good sick day.”

“Fine, Blaise. Lose my number and don’t call me again, and don’t come over.” I look over at Kingston. “And you can fuck right the hell off. I’m not even going to bother you with threats because let’s face it, you would buy your way out, so stay the fuck away from me.”

I slam Damien’s door after hearing him chuckle. “Where to, beautiful?”

“The clinic.” Damien doesn’t say another word as he takes off and I watch in the side mirror until Kingston and Blaise turn into two small dots.

Chapter Fifteen

“Brinley Venice?” The nurse looks around, waiting to see who will stand, so I take a deep breath and stand slowly. Her eyes find me as I move closer. Her smile is warm and friendly even as I look like I am going to cry my eyes out again. “Please, follow me.”

I smile at her, hoping I don’t look like a basket case. I asked Damien to drop me off at the clinic furthest from the tracks and way across South Warren. Getting home will be a pain in the ass but I could use the exercise to clear my head.

The clinic is a free women’s clinic for those in need and I hand her my state card, showing her that my mother is on assistance, praying that she remembered to renew our health insurance. I normally do it but when I won the scholarship, I got side tracked.

“What brings you in today?” She sits at the computer, typing in the information from my card and I see briefly, my name flash across the screen.

“I need the morning after pill,” I whisper, hating how embarrassed I feel.

“Ok, we can certainly do that. When was the unprotected sex?”

I am so glad she doesn’t look at me directly. I don’t know how I would feel. “Two nights ago, and yesterday morning.” I cringe when she turns and looks at me.

“We can give you the pill but the chances of it working lower about fifteen percent, so there is a chance that it won’t work, but most likely, it will. We will need you to come back in a few weeks to make sure.”

“I was on birth control, but I missed a few days of my pill.” I am hoping that it increases my chances of the pill succeeding if it needs to.

“Well, that could help but you have to make sure you remember to take your pills or look at more efficient options.” She opens a drawer and pulls out a few pamphlets, handing them to me. “These are some options and how they work and are inserted. Some light reading for you to consider.”

“Thank you.” She checks my vitals and writes the results down.
