My need
My ever desire.”
My heart soars, and tears stream down my face. There are snuffles behind me, but I can see nothing but the man in front of me, whose eyes shimmer.
“You’ve given me everything I could ever wish for,” he whispers.
Finn and Knox clap a hand on each of his shoulders.
“From all of us,” Knox states, staring deep into my eyes.
“From all of us.” Finn brushes his arm across his face.
We toast, and I pretend to sip champagne.
Finn raises his eyebrows.
After devouring a plate of ribs, brisket and Mom’s potato salad, Finn and I share half a slice of Roly Poly pudding. Knox and Lachlan take a big slice of Momma’s pecan-peach pie. We dance. Knox surprises me by guiding me through the pub effortlessly. Turns out he’s taken lessons for our big day. Finn does the hokey pokey and has everyone out of their chairs. We laugh until our ribs ache. Lachlan leads me in a slow dance, his eyes never leaving mine.
We close the door on Darcie, Colt and Savannah who are heading into the Royal Mile for a nightcap. Mom and Dad have booked a hotel with promises we’ll see them tomorrow morning. Fiona and Clyde left earlier, leaving me with the three loves of my life.
Knox collects me bridal-style and walks me to the stairs. Finn comes forward and takes me in his arms and walks up the stairs, where we meet Lachlan who is standing in front of the door I’ve been itching to walk into all week, but have been forbidden by all three.
“Close your eyes, mo ghràdh.” His lips graze my temple. “My love.”
Knox and Finn echo the phrase.
My heart is bursting with love for my men.
I close my eyes, straining to hear anything. The door creaks open. Lachlan walks and inhales. “It’s bonnie,” he says on an exhale.
I’m lowered to the ground with my eyes still closed. Knox takes my right hand, Finn my left. Lachlan kisses the back of my neck, his arms draped around my shoulders.
“Open your eyes,” he whispers, kissing the shell of my ear.
My eyes blink open. My shoulders curve inward, and tears flood my eyes.
The walls are painted a soft yellow, a wave of birds dip and soar across the walls. A white blanket draped across a rocking chair is tucked in the corner. An open wooden chest is filled to the brim with soft animals.
A crib is in the corner, and a yellow and white comforter adorned with nibbling baby rabbits sits on top of a baby’s mattress.
I walk toward the crib and the mobile of the planets, the sun in the center. I pull the cord and, ‘You are my sunshine’ plays.
“But, how did you know? I was going to tell you after the wedding,” I choke out.
“Baby, your breasts are bigger, and tender.” Lachlan steps toward me.
“Angel, I held back your hair. It wasn’t a bad sandwich.” Finn steps toward me.
“Your nipples are darker, and you’re hornier, then you sleep like the dead. You think we wouldn’t notice the changes in your beautiful body?” Knox steps forward.
“You’re okay with this? It’s so soon in our relationship. I wasn’t sure. It wasn’t planned, but I’m excited to share the next chapter of our lives together,” I say in a heated rush.
“Baby, hush. It’s the best news ever.” Finn kisses my forehead.
“If it’s a girl, she’s not dating until she’s thirty-seven or I’m dead,” Knox grumbles with a spark in his eyes. He too, kisses my forehead. “You’ve made my world,” he whispers.
“He or she will be loved like we love you. Today, tomorrow and forever, by all of us.” Finn brushes his lips against mine. “His or her middle name is Presley, and they’re going to love Elvis as much as I love you.”
I laugh through happy tears. “I love you all so much. You are my world,” I choke out.
Three sets of arms embrace me.
Home, I’ve found my home.
