Baby? That was new. My eyes slid to Foster’s from across the table, but as usual, his expression was unreadable. He didn’t even seem surprised by the interaction.

“Anything for you,” she cooed, placing a soft kiss on his lips.

Bile rising to the back of my throat, I returned my attention to the purple-haired girl seated mere tables away. Her eyes were glued to Collin, brows furrowed as she watched him and Madison interact. I bit back the laugh that threatened to spill out of me as the realization sunk in. Was he trying to make her jealous?

When her eyes swiveled to meet mine, she quickly looked away. Aspen didn’t seem like the type to get jealous, especially after a one-night stand, but who knows.

Once Madison was out of earshot and there was no sign of Jess, I leaned forward on my elbows. “I don’t think we need to be following her around like this,” I began, drawing the attention of everyone at the table. “Think about it. If she was going to snitch, she would have done so by now.”

Foster shook his head, jaw ticking. “We had an agreement. This was the only reason I let her out of the cell. I don’t trust the bitch, and neither should you.” He glanced around at the three of us, before settling his gaze on me. “Today is your day. You follow her everywhere you can. By the end of the night, she better be in your bed. I don’t care how tempting she is.”

Grinding my teeth together in frustration, Jessica and Madison chose that moment to reappear. Jessica placed my food in front of me, before wedging herself in between me and Myles.

“Sorry it took so long,” she chirped, shooting me a sideways grin. “The line was kind of long.”

Not long enough.

Sighing, I took a bite of my sandwich and stared off into space as my mind wandered to all the ways this was bound to go wrong. I suppose I could lie and say that I was going to Foster’s tonight and sleep at Raven’s instead again.

Everyone ate in silence, not wanting to accidentally give anything private away which was bound to happen with the tension being so high between us.

I should have been relieved when classes ended for the day, but that just meant my job had become that much more difficult. At this point, I was ready to snatch her up by the hair and drag her wherever I wanted—not that she’d be very compliant, but it was a thought.

Aspen and Gia slipped into the library, giving me the moment I needed in order to breathe. Releasing a sigh of relief, I took a seat on the bench across from the building.

Damn Foster and his controlling ass self. We confront her after dinner. No sooner, and no later. He was beginning to sound a lot like my mom.

My mom was a selfish cunt who was also set in her controlling ways. While Foster had a heart in there somewhere, my mom didn’t. All the woman cared about was partying, getting laid, and doing what she wanted. I don’t even think I was a second thought. Occasionally, when she’d snag a boyfriend, she’d pretend to be the loving, caring mother that I needed. She’d make me do chores, help me with homework, cook for me. She was afraid of losing her boytoy if he found out what kind of woman she really was behind the scenes.

It never lasted long. A tiger couldn’t permanently change its stripes. She’d eventually fuck up, or he’d cheat, whatever came first, and then she’d be back to her old ways.

Every now and then, she’d call or send a text, hoping to bum some money off me. Sometimes I’d oblige if it got her off my back; other times…I wouldn’t.

I probably sat on the bench for an hour and a half before Aspen and Gia came back into view. Neither one of them seemed to notice me as they fell into step together and started off in the opposite direction.

Standing, I maintained a good distance before following behind them. Aspen’s hips swayed from side to side, making her ass jiggle and images of her sucking my cock penetrated my mind. Tearing my gaze away, I focused on the back of her head instead. Furrowing my eyebrows when they drifted into the cafeteria, confusion washed through me.

Was it dinner time already? Pulling out my phone, I glanced down at the screen. Shit. Waiting a few minutes before entering behind them, I placed my cell back in my pocket and walked through the threshold.

Dinner wasn’t much different from lunch. The building was already filled with students ready to eat and the lunch line was a mile long. Jessica and Madison made comments about Aspen and how her hair was ugly and that she was a whore. Let’s just hope this didn’t end as badly as the situation with Dory did.

Who was I kidding? I just looked at the girl and it set those two girls in ‘attack’ mode. Aspen actually fucked Collin. This would probably end a hell of a lot worse.

“You know what to do,” Foster muttered, nodding toward the table of girls that were beginning to stand.

I hated this.

Leading the way, I moved over to where the three of them stood, their gazes falling on us in synchronization. Raven furrowed her eyebrows at me, confusion written into her features. As discreetly as I could muster, I shook my head, silently begging her not to get involved. When her gaze landed on Jessica who stood off to the side, I internally cursed myself for not thinking this through.

Had I really believed that I could show up with my girlfriend and somehow convince Aspen to come with us when I wasn’t even supposed to be around the girl in the first place?

As if sensing my internal battle, Myles stepped forward. “We need your friend,” he said dryly, getting straight to the point.

“Why?” Jessica asked, making me roll my eyes.

“That’s exactly what I want to know,” Gia chimed in, folding her arms across her chest and giving Myles a dirty look.

Myles shrugged. “Just want to talk.”
