I barked out a laugh. Who did this guy think he was? If Myles decided to come after me, I wasn’t sure if anything could protect me from him. He was certifiably insane, and you’d have to be close to his level to even stand up against something like that. The guy was too unpredictable.

“And how do you plan on doing that?”

He placed his hands flat on the table and leaned forward—a dimple revealing itself as he smirked. “Leave that to me.”

I scoffed. “I don’t even know your name. How do you expect me to trust you if I don’t even know who you are? And what would you even get out of this?”

“Rocky,” he answered, intentionally ignoring my other question. Typical.

“I don’t need your protection. I can take care of myself.” Frankly, I was insulted that he’d jump to that assumption. I might have looked small, but I could defend myself just fine.

He huffed a laugh. “I’m sure you can, darlin. Let me know if you change your mind, yeah?” I reluctantly nodded, just to get him the hell away from me. Once he was standing, he shot me one last wink, before sauntering away.

The guy had balls; I’d give him that.

Looking around the cafeteria once again for Raven and Gia, a smile split across my face as I caught a glimpse of Raven’s red hair.

“That line was insane,” she huffed before dropping into the seat beside me and setting her plate down in front of her.

Gia wasn’t far behind with a tray of her own. She slid into her own seat, placing her food down as well. Her dark hair was pulled into a braid and rested in front of her thin shoulder.

“Is it always so boring here?” I questioned mindlessly. Besides schoolwork, nothing eventful has happened.

“Pretty much,” Raven admitted, tucking into her chicken fried steak and shoveling a bite into her mouth. “But they give us more leeway around this time of year since Halloween is coming up. It’s Principal Hawthorne’s favorite holiday.”

“How much leeway?”

She shrugged. “Not a whole lot. They just give us more activities to take part in. Like the Halloween party for example. There will be a dance before the party, for whatever reason, and we’ll have full range over most of the school. It’s the one time of year where we have complete freedom—within reason.”

I didn’t say anything as I let that sink in. There was something off about this place, and I didn’t know what. I didn’t know a lot about boarding schools, but wasn’t there usually more supervision at places like these? Someone to keep you in line?

Shrugging it off, I decided it was a worry that should be saved for later. There wasn’t anything I could do about it now anyways. Hell, as long as I got to do whatever I wanted, then that’s all that mattered to me.

The rest of the day went by quickly and relief flooded my system. No school until Monday. I quickly changed into a pair of shorts and a thin tank top, trying to get as comfortable as I could in this place. I flopped down onto the bed and craned my neck to look up at the ceiling.

“Are you fighting tomorrow?” Raven questioned from across the room as she sat down on her own bed. Her long hair tumbled around her shoulders, brushing across her bare arms from all the movement.

“I wish,” I murmured. “But Monroe is making me observe this weekend.”

Maybe that was for the best. I’d only been in a few fights because most girls tended to be pussies who just hid behind their mouths, and guys were usually too afraid of the consequences. That didn’t stop a shit ton of them from sexually assaulting us though.

A grimace pulled at my facial features as my mind drifted back to that horrible evening. Ever since that day, I’d wondered what happened to them after the incident. For the longest time, I just assumed Connie took her son’s side and threw me to the wolves. But that couldn’t be true if he were here, could it? Then there were his two friends. Maverick and Ethan. Had they gotten off unscathed? Punishment free? My blood boiled at the mere thought. They deserved to suffer too.

Those two might have been untouchable for now, but Myles wasn’t. For some reason, we were both placed here. Maybe that was a sign. Either he was meant to finish me off, or I was meant to teach him a lesson.

Raven released a groan, ripping me from my thoughts.

“You good?” I questioned mindlessly as my eyes fluttered shut. I wasn’t tired, but sometimes being trapped behind my eyelids brought me a comfort nothing else could.

“I guess. Jessica is up Hunter’s ass right now and he probably won’t be able to get away this weekend unless he sneaks out on her in the middle of the night.” Her bed creaked as she rolled on the mattress. When I opened my eyes, she was lying on her side, facing me. “Unless…he was to spend the night here and tell her that he was sleeping over at Foster’s.”

My eyes widened in surprise. Images of them fucking in the shower resurfaced and a blush painted my cheeks. I wasn’t sure my libido could take much more.

“And where would you expect me to spend the night?” I challenged, knowing damn good and well that there was no way in hell that she expected—

“Stay here, go to Gia’s, I really don’t care.” She shrugged, cutting me off.

“Girl,” I snapped, furrowing my eyebrows. “I don’t know where Gia’s room is, and I’ve only hung out with her a few times. It would be weird as fuck for me to just show up there.”
