“I’ll go wherever I want,” I argued.
Striding toward him, I attempted to walk past him. Instead, he stepped in my way, refusing to make this easy on me. Annoyance reared its ugly head combined with the need for sleep.
“That’s cute that you think you have a choice.” Grabbing my arm, his touch was bruising. A hiss of pain fluttered past my lips which resulted in him tightening his grip as if he enjoyed the sound of me hurting.
I attempted to jerk my arm free, but it was pointless. Every time I tried, he just tightened his hold on me, and it hurt.
“You can’t just make me follow you around everywhere, Hunter. That’s literally insane.”
“See. That’s where you’re wrong.” Stepping towards me, he dropped his lips to the shell of my ear, eliciting a series of shivers to track up my arms and back. His breath was warm and promising as it tickled that sensitive spot, causing my legs to weaken. He shouldn’t have this effect on me. “I can get you to do whatever I want you to do.” His brown eyes flashed with a sinful promise as he backed away to put distance between us.
A breath of relief whooshed out of me, but I couldn’t deny the pull between us. I wasn’t a pushover, but I was beginning to learn things about myself—things that were…different. I liked being dominated, sometimes degraded. I wasn’t a submissive person at all, because I also enjoyed having control. The power that came with bending boys to my will was extraordinary. There was nothing else like it, and it was something I craved.
He led me through the room and down the hall, his hand never straying from my arm. I could already feel the bruise forming.
“It’s going to look weird if you keep tugging me around like this,” I pointed out. “I’m more than capable of walking on my own.”
He ignored me as we passed a few students littering the hall. Their eyes bounced to us confusion etched into their features. Hunter didn’t seem to mind their lingering looks though.
We stopped by my room so that I could change. Surprisingly, Hunter was decent enough to wait outside for me. I dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and a black shirt that hugged my body perfectly.
Once I looked presentable, I returned to the hallway where Hunter was waiting. His gaze raked over me for a moment as if he was judging what I was wearing, but he didn’t comment on it.
Once we got to the cafeteria, he shoved me into the spot between Foster and Myles. Foster shot me a dirty look, but Collin was adamant on not being anywhere near me, so my options were limited.
Hunter ran off to grab some food, and as soon as he was out of sight, Myles slung his arm around my shoulder making me tense on instinct. My throat tightened and a fire ignited within me.
“You have a habit of pissing people off, don’t you?” He smirked.
“Fuck off,” I muttered, elbowing him in the ribs. He didn’t deter, and only laughed instead, which pissed me off more.
The guys didn’t have a choice but to leave me alone for classes, so they were shit out of luck in that department. Unfortunately, they were always lingering close by. During third period, Gia and Raven had a load of questions and guilt was beginning to eat away at me. I didn’t want them to think I was just abandoning them, but I also couldn’t tell them the truth.
Striding toward my normal table as always, Hunter cleared his throat making my head snap in his direction. A cocky smirk tilted the corner of his mouth as he inclined his head for me to join him—which just so happened to be the seat next to Collin.
Raising my arm in the air I flipped him off before slipping into my own seat. He was a fucking idiot if he thought he could control everything I did. Shrugging my bag off my shoulders, I let it fall to the floor right as a hard slap echoed through the room, followed by Hunter’s hand on my desk. Raising my gaze to meet his, my breath caught in my throat at the coldness I found there.
“Hunter,” Raven hissed in astonishment.
I could feel all eyes on us as he hovered over my desk and anxiety rippled through me from all of the attention.
He didn’t pay her any attention. “Come,” he growled, never taking his eyes off me. “Now.”
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I leveled him with a hard look of my own. “And if I don’t?” My eyes darted to the guys seated behind him. They watched the scene unfolding before them with various looks of excitement written into their features.
Hunter clenched his jaw so hard that I could hear his teeth grinding together. “Let me show you,” he decided at last. Before I could process what that meant, he was on me, snatching me up by my hair. The pressure he was causing on my head had my scalp burning and tears springing to my eyes. He didn’t wait for me to follow before he ripped me out of my desk by my hair, my hands instantly finding his as I tried to peel his fingers away.
Raven started protesting angrily as she watched him haul me away. My shoes dug into the tile the best they could, but it didn’t do much. Before I knew it, I was being shoved down into the seat next to Collin.
Humiliation clawed at my insides at what had just happened, and I had no one to blame but myself. If I had just left Hunter alone, he wouldn’t be out to get me. But I couldn’t just overlook the fact that he also burnt me with a cigarette either. No. The last thing I needed to do was roll over. I just needed to take it up a notch.
I glanced over at my roommate—who had already managed to become very close to me in the short amount of time I’d known her. Worry was written all over her face as she stared over at me helplessly. Tilting my lips, I shot her a reassuring smile. The last thing I needed was for her to get involved. She might have been fucking Hunter, but I doubted their connection went any deeper than that.
Mrs. Raleigh strolled into the room conveniently late—not that she would have done anything had she been here anyways. Collin was an asshole through the entirety of her lesson. He not only slut shamed me but dissed me for the way I looked too. Classic.
When fourth period rolled around, the captain was more than willing to put me to work. He gave everyone a free day, except for me. They all got to sit on the sidelines and watch me run laps around the field the entire hour. That was a new form of torture. The only reason I agreed to do what he said today was because I quickly learned that there was an easy way and a hard way, but they’d always get what they wanted in the end. Even if I faced them head-on like I’d been doing.
When practice ended, the first thing I did was chug an entire bottle of water. The only thing keeping me together right now was the knowledge that classes were over for the day. Wiping a coat of sweat from my face, I sucked in a lungful of air before gathering my belongings.
