He might not have recognized me, but I saw him. Even when I pretended I didn’t. Calm and collected on the outside, a disgusting mess within.

Myles Patterson ruined my life and making him pay was the first thing on my agenda. How I planned on doing that…I didn’t know. First, I needed to get my emotions in check and stop hyperventilating.

He could cover himself up with ink, and make new friends, but I knew him for the monster he was. He deserved to rot slowly in agonizing pain.

When the bell rang, I couldn’t jump out of my seat fast enough. My head was spinning, wondering what had sealed his fate, forcing him to come here. Connie must have realized how much of a devil he really was.

Blowing out a breath, I made my way over to my dorm and slipped inside. What the actual fuck? Of course, this just had to happen to me.

What’s going to happen once he realizes it’s me?

Holy shit…he was going to kill me. There was no doubt in my mind about that. I snitched on him when he blatantly warned me not to.

I leaned against the door, my body trembling as anxiety rippled through me. Suddenly, I felt like that fifteen-year-old girl all over again. How pathetic I was…

But he couldn’t have me. Not this time. This time, I would fight back. I’d kill myself before I gave him the satisfaction of doing it.

Swiping my tongue across my lower lip, I worked on composing myself. Pushing out a small breath, my body started to relax as the tension rolled off me. Everything was fine. There was still time. He didn’t know who I was yet, which gave me an advantage.

I walked over to my bed and sat on the edge. Before I could even think of doing much else, Raven strolled into the room with a look of concern plastered across her face.

“Hey,” she said once her eyes met mine. “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah,” I lied. “Why wouldn’t it be?”

Raven and Gia were nice enough to let me sit with them at breakfast today, and I found that I was beginning to like them. They both had vastly different personalities. But just because I might have ended up liking them in the future, didn’t mean I trusted them now. We just met last night, and we weren’t off to the greatest start.

She looked at me for a long time, almost like she was trying to spot a lie. “You practically ran out of the room…”

“I have bad anxiety. I just had a small panic attack.” It wasn’t a complete lie, but it also wasn’t the complete truth either.

Her expression relaxed as she bought my story and then nodded. I hated lying to anyone. It wasn’t a moral thing, because God only knew I was lacking in that department, but doing it just made me feel hollow.

“It was your first day of classes,” she agreed. “Other than the anxiety attack, how has your day been?”

“Fine.” I smirked, my mind drifting to my first period. “Mr. Monroe is a whole ass snack.”

She barked a surprised laugh before shaking her head in amusement. “He is, but don’t let him hear you saying that. He’s kind of a hard ass.” She rolled her eyes at that last part and moved over to her bed where she dropped down onto it.

He hadn’t really given me that impression, but he did have a resting bitch face and looked like he hated everyone. He was way too young and sexy to be a teacher too, which made him all the more appealing.

“I don’t plan on it,” I finally said after a few moments of silence. “Getting detention during my first week would be annoying.” Not that it’s never happened to me before.

She nodded. “That would suck. I heard his punishments are the worst.”

My eyebrows raised into my hairline. Wasn’t detention supposed to be the punishment? What the hell was this place?

As I made myself more comfortable, my mind drifted to Myles and his equally hot friends. I couldn’t help but notice how much Myles had filled out over the last two years. That boy was all tattoos and muscle. I wonder…were his friends just as twisted in the head as him?

“What’s the deal with Myles Patterson and his friends?” Despite my better judgment, I couldn’t help but ask—my curiosity winning out. Every single one of them exuded a confidence that I didn’t even know existed. It was hard not to be a little curious about them. Plus, if Myles was well known around here, then that would make my job a whole lot easier.

Raven sighed unimpressed. “I knew it wouldn’t take long before you were asking about them.” She shifted uncomfortably, sinking into her bed. “They practically run this place,” she supplied, causing my eyebrows to raise. “Not literally. I mean, the staff still have them under their thumb, but only because they have no reason to want to act out. They get away with everything already because of what they do for this place, so everyone turns a blind eye to it. But it’s not all bad. If you stay out of their way, they won’t bother you.”

Interesting…

Unfortunately, as soon as Myles recognized me, I’d have no choice in the matter. That thought alone was enough to make my stomach curl.

“And…what is it they do for this place?” I inquired, bringing my gaze to hers.
