“Their personalities make them look like dogshit.” If that were true, this would be a hell of a lot easier for me. I’d never be stupid enough to fuck any of them ever again.
Anger sizzled beneath my skin, burning me from the inside out. But as quick as the fire had started, it had ended, replaced by a blanket of complete nothingness. A small sigh left me and I brought my drink to my lips, the cold liquid humping my tastebuds.
Why were we even here? What was the point of a mandatory dance before a party? There would be dancing there too.
“Aspen,” a familiar voice called out, forcing me back to reality. It took a few seconds for my vision to readjust, but once it did, Rocky came into view.
My eyes widened as I took him in. Just like the other asshats in my life, he was shirtless. Black suspenders connected to his matching jeans. The black cowboy hat really brought the look together, and his skin was tan just like Collin’s, only a different shade.
“Or should I call you kitten,” he purred, bringing his hand up and flicking my cat ear.
I snorted a laugh. “How original.”
I could feel Raven’s gaze on the two of us, but I refused to look her way. She probably thought something was going on between us, but she was wrong. I barely even knew Rocky.
His gaze tracked down my body in a deliberate manner. Usually, I would have been confident, maybe even flattered. Today, I felt the opposite. Goosebumps attacked my skin and my nipples pebbled from the attention. Rocky was gorgeous. But there were too many complications in my life right now to even consider him.
“How bout a dance?” he offered, his dimple moving with every word.
My shoulders slumped. I wasn’t even sure if I had the energy to dance. Shifting nervously, I opened my mouth to reject him, only for Raven to beat me to it.
“She would love to.” My head snapped over in her direction, my eyes narrowing. A protest was on the tip of my tongue, but when I turned my attention back to Rocky, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Sighing, I motioned toward the dance area. My throat was raw and every time I swallowed, it brought me pain, and the reminder of why it was raw. Once we reached an open spot on the floor, I turned to face him, my gaze absentmindedly flickering over his shoulder to the guys. I could feel them staring back, which made my stomach tighten and my breathing shallow. Those masks made them look even more dangerous.
“Everything okay?” he questioned, concern lacing his voice.
Swallowing—and then wincing—I nodded. “Yeah, let’s just get this over with.” Rocky’s eyebrows drew together, but he didn’t comment on it.
Instead, he took a step forward, his neck lowered. The desire in his eyes was enough to make my knees buckle. Maybe if he’d shown more of an interest at another time, I would have considered it. But right now, I wanted to stay away from guys for the future.
His arm snaked around my waist and in one motion, he tugged me against his naked chest. The heat from his body radiated off him in waves, and it was one of the sexiest feelings I’d ever felt.
My arms wound around his neck right before I started moving against him. It didn’t take long for my nerves to subside and the music to take hold. Before I knew it, we were in a heated dance. I could feel how hard he was as the indent in his jeans pressed against my hip. Normally, that would have had me more turned on than ever—and it did to an extent, but not enough to make me lure him away and jump on him.
“You’re so sexy,” he whispered, his warm breath fanning against my ear. He dropped his face to the crook of my neck, making my breathing labor from the sensation. His lips brushed across the sensitive skin there, and I had to tighten my grip around him just to remain upright.
Biting my lip, I pulled back and put some distance between us. “You’re not so bad yourself,” I admitted, forcing a small smile.
Before he had a chance to reply, I spun around, putting my ass to his groin. His hands found my hips instantly and together, we moved. I could feel his dick a lot better in this position, and finally, my core was tightening with need.
I backed my ass against him in tune with the music and at an aggressive beat, loving the way this felt. When his fingers dropped down and I could feel them inching up my skirt, my heart stalled. My thighs quaked as he continued moving toward my panties.
No matter how much I wanted this, if I gave in, it would just prove to Foster, Collin, and Hunter that they were right. I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction. There was no way we were having sex tonight and leading him on would just be fucked up.
Taking his hand in mine, I directed it back to my waist. To my surprise, he didn’t complain, making my respect for him grow a little bit more.
Chapter 30
Monroe
Guilt coiled around my esophagus as I pinned my gaze downward at the table’s surface. What happened between me and Aspen, never should have happened. I’d never cheated in my life on anyone. Especially not with a student. It all just happened so fast. I was angry at Caroline. Angry at myself. Angry at Aspen for making me feel things I shouldn’t.
It was a one-time thing. Now, we could move forward and pretend nothing ever happened. I just hoped Aspen would be okay with that. The last thing I needed was to lose my license because she decided to paint herself as the victim.
Running my hand down my face in frustration, I leaned against the wall behind me. As if my body could feel her, my gaze snapped up in time to see her grinding on Rocky Barlow. Heat filled my veins as she moved her body in tune with his, my eyes snagging on the way her breasts nearly fell out of her top. When he started putting his hand up her skirt, I blew out a sigh and ripped my gaze away. I needed to get out of here for a minute.
My mind traveled back to Caroline. The day she showed up during lunch, she assured me she’d make more of an effort. Surprisingly, she followed through. Things were almost normal at home now. Aside from the fact that we still weren’t having sex, but after what I did, maybe that was a good thing.
