“You will be my best friend forever, Mommy!”

I made sure she knew that because it was very important to me.

“What’s going on here?”

I heard Daddy chuckling from the door, and turning my head in his direction, I saw him smiling down at the image of us.

He was holding my baby brother, Remy, in his arms. Remy was only seven months old. He was still a little baby, but I loved telling him stories about the stars when Mommy let me hold him.

“I show Mommy that I love her!” I answered him while getting on my feet and running over to hug my father by the legs. I wasn’t tall enough yet to hug him like Mommy could, but someday I would be.

He bent down, and his hand brushed gently over my back. “You look so beautiful, my little princess.”

Nervously curling my hair around my finger, I smiled up at him. “Thank you, Daddy.”

Remy let out a small cry, and Daddy sat him down next to me on the carpet. I pulled him into my arms and pushed his glasses higher.

My brother didn’t have good vision; he needed glasses, but they kept sliding down his nose, so I made it my duty to help him keep them in place.

That’s important; otherwise, he couldn’t see right, and he needed to see how beautiful the world looked. I kissed the crown of his head, and he grabbed my hand while I felt mommy helping me put my new necklace around my neck.

Letting my head fall back, I watched my parents above me.

Both of them always looked so happy together.

My daddy hugged Mommy from behind and kissed her cheek. I turned back to my brother because I didn’t like seeing people kiss; they needed privacy for that.

“Today is Halloween, Remy; we’re going over to the Kidd’s. They are throwing a big Halloween party. Your first one!” my brother giggled as my voice grew more excited.

Kayden’s mother,Olivia, was wearing a witch costume. She looked so cool with her pointed hat. Like the people in these movies, Mommy liked to watch.

She bent down to me with a bowl full of candy.

“Oh, Tillie! You look so cute, my dear!” she welcomed me. “Take something. If you find it, there is a lollipop for you buried under the other candies, cherry-flavored.”

“That’s my favorite!” I stuck my hand inside the bowl and searched for my lollipop and… I found it!

“I know, dear,” My best friend’s mother said before she kissed my hair and stood up and walked over to my parents.

She hugged Mommy and took Remy out of her arms, snuggling her cheek against my little brother’s.

I made my way through the crowd of other children, searching for Kayden but with no luck. I only found his older brother by four years.

Nash was dressed as a pirate in fancy-looking clothes. He was talking to his friends, who all looked older than me.

“Nash, have you seen Kayden?” I asked, tucking on the hem of his shirt.

As he turned around and smiled, his chocolate-brown hair fell on his forehead.

“Hi Tillie, Kayden must be somewhere around; you know he’s fast,” he said as his green eyes looked me up and down. Nash probably noticed my beautiful dress; he had an eye for pretty clothes because of his father’s work.

“You look pretty.”

“Thank you; you look cool too,” I smiled at him and went to search for my best friend.

Nash had always been like a big brother to me.
