Page 76 of Saving Her Vampire

Serenity is an ally to her also. She was human and can relate to Marie differently than I can. She was also thrust into this world and changed under dramatic circumstances. Emotions will be high, and her new skills will be tempting to explore. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to seeing how bloodthirsty she would be and controlling her in my way. Plus, vampires’ appetites for sex are drastically higher than humans. I’m eager to take care of all her needs.

While I wait for Ryker to get back, I go to the bathroom and get warm water. She has dried blood all over her. Her face is peaceful, but I know what’s going on inside her body. She is changing; her skin is brightening, and her muscles are developing. Her cheeks are rosy once I clear the blood off. I move to her legs and shudder at the fact that her pants are gone. I need to know if that sick fuck touched her. I gently wipe them down.

I throw the towel in the garbage after I’m done. I get one of my shirts to put her in. I want my scent all over her, erasing the stench of his.

She hasn’t moved since I bit her. She’s stuck in the in-between state of human and vampire. It took days for Serenity to complete her change, and I don’t know if I can wait that long to look into her eyes.

I hear Ryker arrive with Serenity and stand up. I leave the room and meet them downstairs.

“Bash, I’m glad you got to her on time,” Serenity says, hugging me.

“It was a close call. She freed herself,” I say stiffly.

“I’ll be curious to ask her if she purposely opened the window. We smelled her blood from outside,” Ryker says.

“I wouldn’t be surprised,” I say, rubbing my neck. “My mate is full of surprises.”

“Don’t worry about her. We will stay by her side so that you can do your thing.” Serenity smiles and moves to the stairs.

“If I don’t feel her waking, call me,” I say firmly.

“Of course,” Ryker says.

I nod and shut the door softly. I don’t bother taking my car—I can get there faster by walking in the shadows. The scent of fear is thick in the air the closer I get to the warehouse. I forgot that I left Brandon hanging in chains. My main priority is Sammy; I haven’t decided what to do with Brandon. Now his crimes pale in comparison.

I slip through the door and surprisingly have to hold back laughter. Both Brandon and Sammy are hanging from chains, five feet apart. Bishop is sitting beside Brandon, reading a book, kicking Brandon’s calf, causing him to swing over to Sammy. Their bodies act like a pendulum. Bishop is paying no attention to the whines and cursing.

I’m surprised to see River sitting in front of the swinging bodies, eating a bowl of popcorn, watching the whole process with fascination. River was in the shifters’ games with Bishop. He rescued Bishop’s sister and gained a loyal friend for life. I am not surprised to see River eating. As long as I have known him, he’s had food in his hand. It’s still a mystery where he keeps the food. Does he pack a lunch? Somehow I can’t imagine the fierce wolf doing that.

“Having fun?” I ask. After the events of the last few days, I didn’t think I would be able to laugh, but I can’t help the chuckle that slips out.

“Yep,” River says, looking over his shoulder at me, grinning.

“They wouldn’t stop bitching, so I thought I would rock them to sleep,” Bishop says seriously. “It’s not working.”

“I can see that,” I say dryly.

“It’s fucking hilarious,” River says, shoving a handful of popcorn in his mouth.

“Where did you get the popcorn?” I ask, walking closer.

River shrugs. “How’s your mate?” he asks instead of answering.

“She is healing.” I look from Brandon to Sammy. “She will be a vampire soon.”

“Awesome,” River says. “I hear she was a badass.”

“She was,” I admit. “She is a fighter.”

“I can’t wait to see her as a vampire,” Bishop says, smirking.

“I admit, I can’t either.” I get close to Sammy. His eyes are shooting fire at me. “Is there something you want to say?”

“You took my girl,” he whines.

“She was never your girl.” I motion to his face. “Did my mate do that?”

“Marie was confused. She tried to get away.”
