I do as I’m told, but not before I toss the empty bottle toward a wastebasket in the corner. It dives right in.

“You’re going to recycle that, aren’t you?”

I settle on the bed, turning to look at her. “I am.”

“Good.” Her gaze sails over my face. “I like the late-night shadow look.”

Scrubbing a hand over the stubble on my jaw, I smile. “Should I keep it?”

“You shave every morning, don’t you?”

I agree with a nod. “Almost every morning.”

“You rarely leave home in anything but a tailored suit.”

I can’t argue with that, so I don’t. “It’s rare for me to leave home with the intention of not stopping at the office at some point, so you’re right.”

“Tell me about tonight,” she repeats for a second time.

“I fucked the most incredible woman I’ve ever met.”

That lures a soft smile to her full lips. “I meant before that.”

“I thought about fucking the most incredible woman I’ve ever met.”

That brings up a bubble of laughter from inside of her. “Declan.”

“Abigail.” I cup a hand over her cheek before I kiss her softly. “Tonight was amazing. You’re amazing.”

Her top teeth scrape her bottom lip. “So are you.”

It’s one of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received.

“What was the commitment ceremony like?” She asks with both eyebrows perked. “Did Callie look beautiful?”

I nod. “Like an angel. She was dressed in white. Sean had on a suit. Almost everyone they love was there.”

Her eyes drop to her lap. “It sounds perfect.”

I’m tempted to ask about her wedding day, but I don’t want to travel that path. That’s her history.

“They’re planning on having a legally binding wedding ceremony when Hailey is a few months old,” I explain. “I’d love it if you’d go with me.”

The words are as surprising to me as they are to her. I’ve never invited a woman to any family function before.

Her brows pinch together. “You want me to go to your brother’s wedding with you? In a few months?”

So many complicated questions are woven into those two simple ones, but I ignore them all. “I do.”

She studies my face. “You’re sure? That’s kind of a big deal.”

I scoop her hand into mine and hold it next to my chest. “You’re kind of a big deal to me.”

She closes her eyes briefly before she looks right at me. “If we’re still doing what we’re doing, I’d like to go to Sean and Callie’s wedding with you.”

If we’re still fucking each other is what she means but I let it slide because, for all intents and purposes, that’s what this is.For now.

“Good.” I press my lips to her palm. “Are you hungry?”
