Avery tried not to fixate on the wordsmost of the time. He’d heard Sam say great things about Dr. Trulo and felt better knowing he was there to guide them through the trauma. But the sick feeling in Avery’s stomach wouldn’t subside until he had his Shelby back the way she’d been before this horrific event.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

As Brooke put the finishing touches on the table she’d set for herself and Nate, she was so full of excitement she feared she might combust before he arrived.

That thought made her laugh. She was so silly when it came to him, but he made her feel things she’d never thought possible, until he’d come along and changed everything. Tonight, she would share the news that she’d been accepted to Princeton. She couldn’t wait to tell him. They’d have all next year together before Elijah graduated and presumably moved back to DC to live closer to his siblings.

She’d have another year at Princeton after Elijah left and took Nate, his lead agent, with him. But they’d have next year together. The rest would fall into place. Or so she hoped.

Brooke wanted forever with the sexy agent who’d turned her life upside down in the best way possible. Her suitemates had left earlier in the day to drive to Florida for spring break. She’d chosen to stay in Charlottesville with Nate, who’d taken the week off to spend with her. They’d talked about going somewhere warm and might still do that, but for now, they had no plans beyond spending a whole week together.

She couldn’t wait.

For the nine hundredth time that day, she checked his location, saw that he was getting close and ran for the shower. By the time she emerged from her bedroom, wearing a new red dress she’d bought with him in mind, he was two miles away.

“Take a breath, girl, before you hyperventilate.”

She laughed at her own foolishness, but she hadn’t seen him in a few weeks and was more than ready for a whole week with him. Right as she opened the door, he’d raised his hand to knock.

Brooke laughed as she hauled him inside.

Nate dropped his bags and pulled her into his arms for one of those hot, sexy kisses she’d become addicted to.

He groaned as their tongues collided.

The next thing she knew, his hands were cupping her ass and lifting her as he walked them toward her room without missing a beat in the kiss of all kisses. He set her down next to the bed and had her dress off so quickly, she barely had time to breathe before he was devouring her again with more of the kisses she craved.

His ability to remove clothes while making out passionately was one of his many talents.

He lowered them to the bed and came down on top of her, pulling back to study her face to make sure she was okay.

She loved how he was always worried about sparking triggers from a long-ago night she wished she could forget.

When he would’ve pulled back to get a condom, she stopped him. “I got the shot.”

“What?”

“The birth control shot. We’re good to go.”

“Oh my God. So what you’re saying…”

Brooke laughed at his stunned expression. “I’m saying we don’t need a condom.”

“I’ve never done it without one.”

“Is this a good development?”

“The best development ever.”

“Should we see what it’s like?”

The sound that came from him was half groan, half whimper. “This might be quick.”

“I’m good with quick.” She couldn’t stop staring at his gorgeous face. He had blue eyes and dark wavy hair that had caused her suitemates to nickname him McDreamy. He was that and so much more, and as he aligned their bodies and pushed into her, she was transported right back to the pleasure she’d found with him on several other occasions.

His gasp had her biting her lip to keep from laughing at the face he made as they had sex for the first time without a condom.

“Holy.Shit.”
