“You called me Valentina on our date.”

 “I’m sorry about that.”

She was quiet for a few minutes. “I am glad you’re being honest but it hurts that you won’t give us a chance.”

 “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine. Take care, Leon.” She said and ended the call. The sadness in her tone tore at a tiny part of my heart. My intention was not to hurt her. I took a few minutes to collect myself before I dialed Valentina’s number. She answered almost immediately.

“I was near the phone. It’s not like I was waiting for you to call or anything,” she said, sounding nervous.

I laughed nervously too. “It’s fine. How… how are you doing? How’s your day going?”

“I’m quite busy with work. I still have to deliver on the contract I signed with Miguel.”

“Oh yes, that’s true. Do you have a few minutes to talk or should I call after work?”

“I can talk now?” she responded.

“I was thinking we should maybe have dinner sometime?” I asked and crossed my fingers, anticipating her response.

“Dinner? Just us or with Ava?”

 “Just the two of us.”

“Hmmm… you told me before I agreed to go on the first date that if I didn’t want a second one, you’d leave me alone.”

My heart sank at her words. I knew that there was a chance that she’d refuse a second date, I just didn’t know I would feel like this at her words.

“Leon, are you there?” she asked.

“Yeah, I am. I also remember what I said before our first date.”

“I do want a second date.”

It took a few minutes for the words to register in my head. “You do?”

“Yes, I’ll go out to dinner with you.”

I was ecstatic at her response. It hadn’t occurred to me how much I was anticipating this until now.

“Alright. Uhm, I’ll set the entire thing up. Tomorrow night. Does tomorrow work for you?”

 “Yes, it does.”

“Alright then Valentina, tomorrow evening at 6 p.m..”

“Can’t wait.” She said before the call ended. I got up and did a little dance before I looked around my office to see if anyone saw that. I laughed at myself before returning to my chair.

 Chapter25

 Valentina

A bubbly feeling formed in my chest and remained there after my call with Leon ended. I remembered the way our last date ended and how I stormed out on him but I hoped this time, things would be different. My hair needed some work and so did my wardrobe. I wanted to look breathtaking.

James knocked on my door to inform me that he had finished with a task I sent him to do. I thanked him and started picking up my items to leave. He stopped,

 “Are you leaving?”
