He and Nash had often thought about getting Maggie fitted for a muzzle but just never got around to it. He regretted that now.

“Shut up.”

“I’m sure you shouldn’t speak to the woman I love like that,” Fin said. He was lying on his back on the grass beside the table, hat over his eyes, resting.

“Sawyer is our frowner,” Daniel Duke said.

“Like hell I am.”

His brothers laughed.

“I’m not,” he muttered.

“Hi, Sawyer.”

Ford watched a lady walk up to the eldest Duke. She was pretty but not in Autumn’s league. She leaned down to where Sawyer sat.

“I hate when women do that so a man can get an eyeful of what’s on offer,” Piper said loudly.

Dylan just smiled and clamped a hand on her shoulder.

The woman ignored her and gave Sawyer a flirty smile. He frowned.

“Want to go for a walk, Sawyer?” she asked.

Anyone with an inch of intelligence would have understood that suggestion for what it was. Apparently not Sawyer Duke, because he said, “Why?”

The girl looked annoyed but rallied. “I want to talk to you.”

“About what?”

Daniel Duke slapped a hand over his eyes. Brody shook his head.

“Stuff.”

“Just tell me here.”

“It’s like he’s still riding with training wheels,” Jay, the Duke brothers’ friend, said. “The good Lord only knows how he pulls as many women as he does.”

“I want to show you something.”

“I bet she does,” Piper said, smiling sweetly.

“I’m eating. Show me tomorrow, Sydney Jane,” Sawyer said.

The woman didn’t stomp her foot, but it was close.

“Let me help you out here, Sydney Jane,” Piper said. “He’s not interested in what you’re offering, or he has no clue. As I don’t know him well, I can’t decide which. But neither works out well for you.”

Sawyer Duke gave her a small smile, which told Ford that maybe he’d been playing dumb.

The woman glared at Piper and Sawyer before stomping off.

“Shame you’re married,” Sawyer said to Piper.

“Not from where I’m sitting, which incidentally is next to my wife,” Dylan added.

“Uncle Asher isn’t picking up,” Brody said. “Something’s off with him.”
