Aiden glanced quickly at Mackenzie. He didn’t see her do it, but she had shifted.

It was just a quick glance but the wolf in front of him used his distraction to inch closer. He didn’t wait for the wolf to attack again, he lunged forward.

He swiped at the male from the left, which he easily dogged, then struck for Aiden’s right side. Aiden jumped back, then immediately lunged forward again, snapping at the wolfs muzzle.

Aiden just barely grazed him, which seemed to make him angry. He lunged at Aiden sloppily and off balance. Taking advantage of the stumble, he jumped forward sailing over the wolf and swiped his claws down his side, ripping open huge gashes. As he landed, he quickly turned to keep the wounded wolf in sight.

He was hurt, but not bad enough to take him out of the fight. His sides were heaving, and he had a desperate look in his eyes though. Aiden was obviously the better fighter, and he could tell.

Aiden waited for him to make his move. This would be it. Then he jumped forward, going for Aiden’s throat. Aiden dogged the strike at the last second and twisted back to lock the wolfs throat in his jaws.

Aiden felt a claw rip down his shoulder, but he ignored it. Wrenching the wolfs throat, there was a loud snap, and he went limp.

He dropped the dead wolf and turned to see Kenzie trying to fight off the other two wolves. She swiped at one of them, and he jumped back. They didn’t seem to be attacking her though, more like they were pushing her somewhere. She was quite a distance from where she had been last time he looked.

Racing over to her, he came up right behind the smaller wolf closet to him and sunk his teeth into the wolfs hindquarter, tearing away flesh. He secretly hoped this was the wolf that ripped his shoulder open, as he spit out the torn flesh. Then he leaped back as the wolf turned and swiped at him, just barely grazing his cheek. Again, he ignored the pain and lunged back in for another swipe, this time catching him on his snout.

The wolf yelped and stumbled back.

Suddenly four wolves came racing into the clearing, Marshall’s golden wolf among them.

The two wolves, seeing they were outnumbered, took off in the other direction. Aiden wanted to chase them, but instead went to Kenzie. He could smell her blood and it was making his wolf very upset.

When he reached her, he noticed a small laceration on her arm. One of the wolves swiped her with his claws.

Aiden wanted to chase after them and tear them apart for touching her. It was hard to reign himself in, but she needed him. The others would catch them.

Aiden watched as three of the four wolves ran past them in pursuit, Marshall briefly stopped to look over Kenzie’s wound.

“She’s okay brother,”Aiden reassured him.“Get those fuckers.”

Marshall growled, then raced off after the others.

Aiden looked back at Kenzie, taking an even closer look to reassure himself that she was okay. She turned and met his eyes, then walked over to him and touched her nose to his.

“I’m okay Aiden. But you are covered in blood. We need to get you back. Can’t have you bleeding out on me when I just found you.”She gave him a big wolfy grin, tongue lolling out to the side. He chuckled. She was trying to make him feel better.

He touched his nose to hers again, “I’m sorry I wasn’t close enough to protect you.”

She made a huffing noise and rolled her eyes, almost making him laugh again. That looked so weird on a wolf, but it was also adorable. Now that they weren’t fighting for their lives, he took a closer look at her wolf.

She was beautiful! Sleek black fur, with just a small white patch on her chest and at the tip of her tail, and she still had those beautiful green eyes that captivated him. She was small for a werewolf but still bigger than a regular wolf. He was nearly twice her size. It made him feel even more protective of her. He wanted to wrap her in bubble wrap and never let her out of his sight.

She stepped closer to him, then licked the side of his face. It stung a bit, reminding him that he had been slashed.

“It was not your fault Aiden. You did protect me. If you hadn’t been here, they would have taken me.”Then she continued to lick his face slowly and moved down to his shoulder. It stung a little but then there was a warm sensation, almost a tickle and the pain slowly started to fade.

What the hell. Was she healing him?“Kenzie, what are you doing?”

“I don’t know. It was just a feeling. I just knew what I needed to do to help you. I think I’m helping you heal.”He could feel it. His shoulder slowly knitting itself back together. Neither wound hurt anymore at all.

Wolves heal fast, but not that fast. And their saliva does not heal. But, then again, Mackenzie and Marshall are supposed to be something different. Rhiannon said they had power. Maybe this is what she was talking about.

After one more lick to his cheek, Kenzie stepped back. “Does it still hurt?”

“No, it doesn’t hurt at all now. You healed me. Thank you, sweetheart”.He gently rubbed his cheek against hers, giving her a wolfy hug. She chuckled and then rubbed her cheek against his, as if she liked it. Knowing she enjoyed his touch sent a warm feeling through his heart.

Aiden tried not to let on that he was scared that she had just used some kind of magic. It was an anomaly, it wasn’t possible, werewolves didn’t have magic. They were created from it, but they had no way to harness it.
