Sighing, Christopher said, “I almost forgot. William and Corine are coming early. They will be here tomorrow afternoon.”
Swearing, Marshall headed for the door again, as he reached it, he turned around again. This time speaking to Kenzie, “I’m sorry Kenzie, I need to go get a few things ready before the council arrives. Would you like to stay here tonight? I can have a room made up for you.”
With her purse on her shoulder now, she shook her head, “No thank you. I think I’m actually going to head home. I have a lot to process, and I think I need to be alone to do it. Plus, Fiona is there and she’s probably starting to think I’m not coming back.”
Marshall nodded, then asked, “Who is Fiona?”
“My mom’s cat, or I guess my cat now.” She said with a sad smile, “She’s become a bit clingy since mom passed away. But could I come back tomorrow? Or maybe not if the council is coming. I don’t want to be in the way.”
Marshall walked back over to her and took her hands, “You could never be in the way. Why don’t you give me your number and I’ll text you in the morning and let you know what the best time to come is?”
Grabbing a blank piece of paper off Aiden’s drawing desk, she wrote her number down and handed it to Marshall.
Then she looked at Christopher and Aiden, “You both can have it if you want. I don’t know how to mind link yet so it would be good to have it.”
Aiden took her hand, turning her to face him, “Look at me. It’s much easier than you would think.” It took a second, like she didn’t want to look him in the eyes. Then slowly, their eyes met, and it was like getting hit in the gut with a baseball bat. He took a second to focus again, then said, “Concentrate on me, then push your thoughts at me.”
“Push them?” She looked a bit skeptical, or maybe like she just didn’t want to do it, he couldn’t tell.
“Yes. Think about me, and then imagine pushing your thoughts into my head.”
Sighing, she closed her eyes, and then,“This is so stupid. It’s totally not going to work and now I’m thinking about him and how good he smells. He really does smell good enough to eat and- “
Aiden busted out laughing,“Woman, you can eat me anytime.”
Kenzie gasped and dropped his hands, stepping back she covered her face with her hands in embarrassment. “Oh my god, I didn’t think it would work! You heard all of that?”
He gently pulled her hands away from her face, and keeping a hold of them, he nodded.
“Yes, but don’t be embarrassed. It was cute. And I think you know I don’t mind.”
Still looking him in the eyes, she nodded. She knew, and she knew he knew. But they were going to leave it there for later. She needed some time, and he was more than happy to give it to her.
Aiden smiled and gently let her hands slide from his, “Let’s get you home to Fiona.”
Christopher and Marshall both said their goodbyes and gave Kenzie a hug. Then Aiden took her back to her car in silence. She didn’t hug him but gave him a shy little wave as she climbed into the driver’s seat.
As he watched her drive away in her little green car, he knew his life was never going to be the same.
Chapter 8.
Kenzie
It was around five pm when she got home. Kenzie walked in, and as expected, Fiona immediately came running. Now she was following her everywhere. She felt bad that she’d left her so long, but the cat would be okay with a bit of love and attention.
After greeting Fiona, she immediately went and put on pajamas then turned-on Netflix. But she turned the volume down low, and was now just sitting on the couch, thinking.
It was a crazy day, and it was all starting to catch up with her. She was getting a small headache behind her eyes, which always meant she was too stressed out. Usually, she would talk to her mom, but since she couldn’t do that, the next best thing would be great.
Kenzie picked up her phone and called the one person she knew would be able to give her advice. He answers on the second ring, “Hey kiddo! How’s Tennessee?”
His voice immediately makes her feel better and some of the stress leaks out of her shoulders, “Hey Uncle Jake. It’s pretty good. Just as hot as North Carolina though.”
“Well, that’s the South for ya. So, what’s going on?” He asked.
It was just like him to be straight forward. He knows why she came here, “So I met my father Christopher and my twin brother Marshall who I didn’t know existed. I also joined the pack, apparently, I have some kind of powers, and I’m pretty sure I met my mate.”
There’s silence on the phone for a second, then she hears Jake tell someone that he’s stepping out for a second. Then he comes back, “I think I need a little more to go on here kiddo.”
