“Is that good?” Maya asked.

“It’s great. We are going to keep you here for a couple of days. This is your first baby, so we want to make sure your body is healing properly, and he doesn’t have any surprises that come up. It’s all a precaution and something we do with every new mom,” Dr. Morris explained.

“We had to do that with Zoey. The poor nurses had to teach us everything. We didn’t even know how to change her diaper,” I said with a small laugh to try and ease Maya’s fears. Staying at the hospital was a good thing and not something she needed to worry about.

“It might be nice to have the extra help for the first couple of days,” Maya agreed.

“I will let the nurses know that you can be moved into a private room. Congratulations, and I hope you all have a great life together,” Dr. Morris said with a kind smile before he headed out.

“Thank you Dr. Morris,” I called before he headed out.

The nurses all fluttered out, and I knew they had another twenty babies to deliver before their shift ended; if they were lucky it would be that low.

“Lucas and the others are on the way,” I said after I sent him a quick text.

“Do you think Zoey will like him?” Maya asked, slightly worried now that our son was here.

“She’s going to love him, and I think she is going to love being the only girl still,” I answered. I knew she had been hoping for a sister, but I also think it would have worn off when she wasn’t the only little girl in the house. Plus, she was more of a tomboy so she might like having a little brother to play in muddy puddles with.

“She’s such a sweet girl. She is going to love him,” Hellen agreed.

“I can’t believe he’s really here. It doesn’t feel real yet,” Maya said with a small smile, but her eyes never left our son’s face.

“It’ll feel real in a couple of days.” I knew with Zoey it took a good week before it felt like it was my life. The change wasn’t instant as a new reality set in.

There was a knock at the door before it opened, and Zoey was instantly running into the room. Hellen was quick though to make sure she didn't jump up on the bed.

“Hang on, she’s sore Sweetheart,” Hellen said kindly.

“Sorry,” Zoey said.

“It’s okay, you can come up,” Maya said as she patted the side of her bed. Lucas went and picked Zoey up and carefully placed her down on the bed.

“He’s cute,” Zoey commented as she leaned over and looked at our son.

“He’s gorgeous,” Ms. Wilson gushed.

“You guys did good,” Lucas agreed.

“What’s his name?” Zoey asked.

We had kept it a secret, and I knew they were all anxious to hear what it was. We had gone back and forth with what we wanted to name him, but in the end we felt it was best to give him a name of the men within our lives that meant something to us.

“This is Henry Anthony Beaumont,” Maya announced.

Henry, after my grandfather. And Anthony, after Tony, the Marshall that died protecting Maya. Both men sacrificed everything for the both of us. My grandfather raised me when he didn’t have to. He loved me like his own son. And Tony, he gave his life so Maya would have a chance at a life of her own. Without Tony, we wouldn’t be here; she wouldn’t have been here. We owed them both everything and through our son, they got to live on.

Neither of us ever expected that this would be the outcome of a crazy deal between us. But I knew we wouldn’t have it any other way. The world gave us both a second chance at happiness and love. And I knew this was only the start of our journey, and I couldn’t wait to see what else was in store for us.

THE END.
