I squealed, and then I laughed as I landed in his chair instead of my own.
It was a big lounger, something suitable for a guy his size, but I still ended sprawled on top of him, and his powerful grip wasn’t going to allow me to go anywhere.
Our eyes locked, and his tone was grim as he stated, “There will never be a time when I won’t be concerned about your safety, even if we do resolve the break-in. There’s a lot of crazy people out there, Shelby, and just being with me could put you in harm’s way. Maybe that’s something you should still consider while you’re trying to make up your mind about whether or not you want to take me on for something permanent.”
His beautiful gray eyes were tumultuous as he stared back at me, and his arm tightened even more possessively around my waist.
I understood his concern because of what had happened with Savannah, but it still pissed me off just a little that he thought I’d run away from him because of that kind of threat.
And I’d already made up my mind a long time ago on the more permanent relationship.
I lifted my hand and palmed his stubbled jaw. “Do you really think I’d give you up for something that has almost no chance of happening, Wyatt? I know that fear is very real for you, but I’d never give up a man like you for something like that. I wouldn’t give up my happiness for something like that. Was Savannah willing to give up Chase, even after what happened to her? No, she wasn’t. Be cautious if it makes you feel better. I can handle that. But don’t ever assume that I’d toss away a guy who makes me this happy over something like that. It pisses me off. I know I’ve made some dumb choices in the past that I regret, but I’m not an idiot.”
He lifted a brow. “No, you’re definitely not an idiot. Are you happy, Shelby?”
“I was until you gave me that stupid warning,” I snipped back.
He smirked, his gray eyes lighter and warmer than they were a moment ago. “How long are you planning on being angry?”
“I’m not sure,” I said stubbornly, but I made no effort to get up and leave the delicious heat of his massive body. “I’ll let you know when I decide that I’m not pissed off about it anymore.”
Wyatt moved quickly for a guy his size, and before I knew it, I was flat on my back beneath him, staring up at his handsome face.
His gaze was heated, but his gorgeous lips were tilted up into a teasing smile. “What can I do to convince you to get over it faster?” he asked in that low, sexy baritone that made me want to rip his clothes off.
Um…Fuck me?
That would probably work.
After a few weeks of agonizing, sensual torture from being this close to Wyatt, that was exactly what I needed.
I just wasn’t exactly sure how to tell him that I didn’t have a single hesitation about being his girlfriend anymore.
Hell, I actually wanted every female on the planet to know he was mine.
Wyatt had systematically broken down every one of my defenses and fears.
We’d talked about it.
He’d shown me in every way possible that he wanted me, that he cared about me, and I believed him.
I was convinced.
I wanted Wyatt so damn much that I didn’t care about any lingering insecurities that I might have anymore.
What I had with Wyatt was nothing like my previous relationships.
“Take me to bed?” I suggested.
The intensity in his gaze made me shiver with anticipation as he growled, “My patience is wearing pretty thin, sweetheart. Make sure you know what you’re asking for right now. You better be certain you’re willing to take my ornery ass on permanently because you’ll be mine.”
I sighed happily. “I’m already yours, but I’d be more than happy if you’d seal that deal.”
Wyatt moved so fast to get us out of the lounge chair that it made my head spin.
He picked me up and headed for the stairs before I could even protest that I was perfectly capable of walking upstairs on my own.
