Shelby
Isighed as Wyatt and I sat and watched the sunset on the water from his patio.
We’d spent a lazy Saturday at Tori’s house swimming in her pool and eating burgers on the grill in the late afternoon.
Everyone had been there, which had given me a chance to catch up with Taylor and Harlow in person, too.
The last few weeks since I’d started officially dating Wyatt had probably been the happiest of my entire life.
The shift in my relationship with Wyatt wasn’t exactly subtle, but it wasn’t blatantly demanding, either.
It was…seductive.
And I’d had a very hard time not caving in and just telling him that I wanted him to take me to bed.
I was beyond ready.
We were two consenting adults who cared about each other, but I got the feeling that Wyatt was trying to make sure I trusted him.
He didn’t try to convince me with words.
He simply acted like a devoted partner, and that was even harder to resist than words.
I was thirty-five years old, and I’d never had a guy who treated me like Wyatt did on a daily basis.
He rarely stayed late at work unless he had to anymore, and he’d even taken a few extra days off to surprise me with something new. He also made it a point to take me out to dinner often to try new restaurants, even if I had done a food video that day and had plenty of things prepared for dinner.
Wyatt made sure that we hit every tourist attraction in San Diego, and he’d even seemed to enjoy them, even if he probably secretly thought they were a tourist trap.
Once we’d finished covering those attractions, we’d started to go outside of the city.
Wyatt included Xena whenever possible, but since the weather was hot and the little Frenchie and hot weather didn’t mix well, he got a dog sitter if we were going out for the day.
I’d probably seen more of California in the last few weeks than I had since I’d moved here.
I’d discovered that my concerns about the two of us having nothing in common were totally unfounded. Wyatt and I enjoyed a lot of the same things.
We loved checking out new restaurants together, getting outdoors whenever possible and spending time with his family and friends, who were now my friends, too.
More often than not, he gave me the option of where we were going when we had time off together.
Wyatt had taken the day off yesterday. We’d driven to Idyllwild to check out the San Jacinto Mountains simply because I happened to mention that I missed the peacefulness of the summers in Montana sometimes.
We’d done an easy hike, chilled out, and then had dinner at a cute café before we headed back to San Diego in the evening.
Okay, so Idyllwild wasn’t exactly Montana. You could find peaceful places in California, but there were generally a lot of other people who wanted a piece of the serenity, too. The population in Southern California made it difficult to ever truly be alone in the great outdoors. But the trip had been heartbreakingly sweet because all Wyatt had wanted to do was make me happy, and he’d accomplished his mission. I’d enjoyed every moment that we’d spent soaking in the scenery together.
Wyatt thoroughly spoiled me. I had his full attention whenever we were together, and he seemed more relaxed and happier than I’d ever seen him.
He cared about me. He was attracted to me, and he made sure I knew it every single day, which had gone a long way in squashing my previous insecurities.
We’d gotten to know each other better, but he still occasionally surprised me.
Earlier today at Tori’s house, I’d discovered that Wyatt had a wide range of adrenaline inducing skills including skydiving, rock climbing, scuba diving, and flying. I wasn’t sure how many of his crazy skills had been acquired in the military, but he had mentioned that he’d been scuba diving and flying since he was young. They were activities he’d done with his dad, so those skills had been honed well before his career in the military had even started.
“Is there anything dangerous that you don’t do as a hobby?” I asked him jokingly once the sun had disappeared from the horizon.
He grinned at me from the lounge chair next to mine. “I haven’t done any of those things recently, but I have to admit that I’ve never seen the point in base jumping or bungee jumping. I also don’t ride horses or I would have taken you to ride already since you enjoy it.”
