Dammit!
Don’t panic, Shelby! Think! Try to think of another way out of this nightmare!
I tried not to let my hopelessness overwhelm me, but realistically, I knew my chances of getting out of this situation were slim to none.
Now, I wished that I had told Wyatt how I felt about him, and I really wished I’d paid closer attention to his aptitude for sensing possible danger.
Wait!
Wyatt!
The GPS tracker!
I moved my head until I could feel the small device around my neck.
Ted hadn’t noticed it at all.
Was it possible that Wyatt knew I was in trouble? That he could track me using that tracker and notify the police?
I tried not to get my hopes up. By now, Kaleb had definitely sounded the alarm that I was missing, but I wasn’t sure that he’d even call Wyatt until he knew exactly what was happening.
No one had been around when Ted had kidnapped me. They were probably still searching Kaleb’s property.
Wyatt probably had no idea anything was even wrong, and he wasn’t the type of guy to stalk me with a GPS tracker unless he needed to know my location.
Remembering the tracker gave me a ray of hope, but it was a long shot. I had a limited amount of time.
I had no idea what time it was, but the cabin was so dark that all I could see was a faint light from the moon and stars filtering into the bare window across the room.
It was then that I noticed that the window was starting to open.
Inch by inch.
Little by little.
So slowly that I couldn’t hear it even as I tried to listen through Ted’s intermittent snoring.
Someone was going to enter the cabin, and I didn’t know if I should scream or hope it was someone who would help me.
My vulnerable state really hit home as I realized that someone else who was wide awake would be in this room very soon, and I had no idea what their intentions were going to be.
It could be someone with nefarious goals, but what could be worse than waking up the serial killer who was snoring beside me?
Ted was most definitely going to rape me, torture me, and kill me.
I decided I’d rather take my chances with whoever was coming into the cabin.
My body trembling with terror, I watched as a very large, black-clad figure entered the cabin so stealthily that the person didn’t make a sound.
I couldn’t make out much. Just the outline of the individual.
Because the body appeared to be so large, I assumed it was a male, which scared the hell out of me.
The second he moved away from the small pool of light at the window, I had no idea where he went.
I laid there motionless, afraid to twitch a single muscle until I knew what this person wanted.
My brain rebelled, and my body recoiled as I felt a hand cover my mouth and warm breath from the stranger wafting across my cheek.
