Wyatt:Any idea of what you’d like to do?

I thought about that for a moment.

Me:Honestly, I’d just like to do something for fun. I’ve been here for a year, and I’ve been to almost none of the fun things or San Diego attractions like Balboa Park and the zoo. Or Sea World. Those things would probably be ridiculously boring for you though since you grew up here. I’ve also never done escape rooms. Maybe it’s a little silly, but I think it would be fun. I’m open to whatever. You’re the one who knows California. I’m a recent transplant.

Until recently, I’d had no friends in San Diego, and I’d been entirely focused on making a living.

I hadn’t sought out anything to do for fun for years.

Wyatt:I’m not exactly an expert on fun things to do, either. You know me, Shelby. Do I seem like the kind of guy who looks for fun things to do? I haven’t been to any of the attractions since I was kid.

I sighed.

He probably hadn’t since he was a workaholic who had no idea how to have fun.

Wyatt was way too solemn. He took the world and himself much too seriously.

He’d had a happy childhood, but after that, his life had been about duty, family, and sacrifice for the good of Durand Industries.

It was probably beyond time that Wyatt started thinking about doing things for his own enjoyment.

Me:Then I think we should see what fun feels like together.

Wyatt:I’d like to see what a lot of things feel like when we’re together.

A soft laughed escaped my lips because I could almost hear his voice grumbling that comment.

It was flirtatious in a Wyatt sort of way.

Me:It wasn’t my idea to wait. I know what I want.

Wyatt:You sure about that?

Me:Yes. How long will it take me to convince you that I am now?

Now that he’d told me that he didn’t have feelings for another woman and that he was crazy about me, I didn’t have any reservations anymore.

Wyatt:One more late night baking session in the kitchen in those skimpy pajamas will probably kill me off.

Me:That aren’t exactly sexy?

I wore those shorts and a tank for comfort.

They weren’t an outfit that would seduce any guy.

Wyatt:On you, they’re definitely sexy.

I sat there for a minute, trying to figure out if he was serious.

I finally decided that he was because Wyatt never said anything he didn’t mean.

I had a few body issues from my previous relationship, but I was starting to realize that Wyatt didn’t seem to see anything about me that wasn’t attractive to him.

I wasn’t quite sure how to handle that, but I could definitely get used to being with someone who didn’t point out every fault I had.

Me:Thank you.

Wyatt:For what?
