“Gone?”
“Well, kind of. He said part of him would always be there, but absorbed by my soul. It’s just me now, Midnight. I hope that makes you happy.”
Midnight blows out a breath, his face drenched in emotion. “All the gods, I am overjoyed. This whole situation made me realize I was so ready to let the past go, to let it die with Benedict and embrace the unbelievably generous gift I’ve found in you.” He kisses my forehead. “Tru, my love. All I wanted was to shed the pain and guilt of the past and love you with all my heart. The pain and fear I felt when I thought Benedict was taking over was intense. I didn’t want to make love to him. I didn’t want to hold him or kiss him. I wantedyou, Tru. Only you.”
“It was me all along. I’m yours now, Midnight. I’ll never leave you, never hurt you. All I have in me, I give to you.”
Midnight pulls me into his arms, kissing my neck. After a few minutes, he lays me down again, holding a glass of thick red liquid out for me. I don’t have to ask what it is. I can smell it.
Taking the glass, I guzzle it down, exhaling as I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. “I thought it would be hard to drink blood. Why does it taste good?”
Midnight chuckles. “That is very fine, very pure blood, but the main reason is because you are ruled by your bloodlust. I will help you through it.”
My dick twitches between my legs, swelling quickly. “Fuck.”
“I’ll help you with that too.”
“Good. What happens next?”
“After you rest and get your legs under you, you should go visit Lucia and share the good news.”
“You’ll come with me, right?”
He looks slightly surprised, but also pleased. “I will do anything you ask of me, kitten.”
“Huh, I wonder if I can speak French anymore.”
Midnight rattles off a bunch of words that definitely sound like a sexy mess.
“Nope. Didn’t get a word of it.”
“Good.” He tickles his fingers under my chin. “Somehow, you are even more beautiful than you were.”
“I’d get up and look in the mirror, but I don’t think my legs will hold me yet. Besides, it only matters to me what you think.”
His expression turns serious as he grips my hands in his. “You are worth everything I went through to find you. I will spend every minute of our long lives making you happy. I promise you this.”
“Can we have a wedding? Like regular people?”
“Would it please you?”
“Yeah. It’s something I always hoped for. That someone would want to spend forever with me. That they’d want the whole world to know I was theirs.”
“My sweet kitten, you can have your wedding. Anything you want, if I can get it, it’s yours. I’d find a way to steal the stars if you wanted them.”
I tap his chest over his heart. “Trust me, this is enough.”

Epilogue ~ Midnight
One year later
“Talk about things I never expected to happen,” Thorn says as he pours another glass of champagne. “A wedding.”
“It’s what Tru wanted.”
“And what he wants, he gets. I know.” Thorn smiles. “I’m happy for you, brother. Love looks good on you.”
