I’m silenced further when his teeth plunge into my flesh. My back arches off the bed and I hiss from the pain, knowing pleasure is coming soon.
Just seconds later, warmth floods my body and I sink into the mattress. I open my eyes and stare up at the ceiling, knowing he’s draining me, drinking me in, claiming my soul just like he promised me.
I try to imagine what our life will be like after this, but I don’t think my mortal mind can even comprehend it. All I can see are swirls of clouds and ocean waves. As my body weakens, my family’s faces pop into my mind. I see Lucia healthy and smiling, my parents and Pilar proud behind her. Then I see the faces of Midnight’s family, their arms outstretched towards me, acceptance and belonging radiating from them.
The last image is Midnight, but it’s not a vision. It’s the man himself, eyes glowing, mouth stained with my blood, love for me all over his face. I watch, barely able to keep my eyes open as he slits his own wrist and offers the deep crimson liquid spilling from it to me.
Something new in me crawls to the surface, animalistic and feral, desperate for the blood of my maker. I grip his wrist, sucking with all the strength I have left. Slowly, the intense hunger subsides, but I can’t keep my eyes open a second longer.
“I’ll be here when you wake, sweet kitten.”
* * *
Awareness returns slowly as my eyelids flutter and I awaken from the deepest sleep ever. As I blink, Midnight comes into focus, leaning next to me, his eyes fixed on my face.
“Hi,” I whisper, my voice hoarse.
“Hello. How do you feel?”
“Not sure yet. Am I a vampire now?”
He nods, smiling. “Yes, my love, you are.” He brushes the hair off my forehead. “You are mine for eternity.”
A smile pulls at my lips. “Cool.”
Midnight chuckles. “Yes, it is.”
“What happens now?”
“You need to adjust. You’ll be hungry and horny for a few days before it dies down to a more manageable level.”
“So I get to feed and fuck? Not so bad.”
“Not bad at all.”
I glance down at my body, covered in drying cum and faded streaks of blood. Why is that so rad?
Cupping his cheek, I hold his gaze. “Did I make you happy, Midnight?”
“There are no words to describe how I feel. Happy doesn’t scratch the surface.”
“Good.” My body feels funny, like the skin is too tight. I glance around the room, aware of how much sharper my vision is. A leaf hitting the outside window pulls my attention to it.
“Everything is loud for a while. It gets better,” Midnight explains.
“Okay.” Dragging my hand down his neck to rest on his chest, I continue, “I have something to tell you.”
“I’m listening.”
“Benedict isn’t here anymore.”
Midnight’s eyes go wide. “No?”
“When it started happening, it was like I could have a conversation with him. I saw his face. I thought he was trying to steal the moment from me.”
“I thought the same.”
“He wasn’t. He was saying goodbye. He fulfilled the destiny fate wanted for you. He stayed long enough to make sure this would happen for us.”
