I nod, looking over Tru’s body. “He doesn’t look harmed.”
“Oh shit,” Viper says. “Someone get a bucket. He’s about to hurl.”
Eros is gone and back in a flash, holding a trash can out for me. I tuck it under Tru’s head and turn him on his side. Just seconds later, he convulses and vomits milky liquid with chunks of what look like blue pills inside.
“Yesss,” Viv says. “My elixir is forcing it out.”
“He drugged him,” I murmur. “That fucker drugged my Tru. He tried to kill him.”
Yves, hovering behind the couch and watching the scene, nods. “Tru is a fighter. He kept himself awake and alive long enough for you to find him.”
“Sweet little madman,” Thorn says. “This means we get to kill Vinni now, right? I’ll hold him for you while you rip his insides out.”
The image of doing just that calms my rage a little. “Yes. As soon as Tru is well, we’ll go and find him.”
“You sure you want to wait?” Yves asks. “It seems Vinni is getting desperate.”
“I promised Tru.”
“He’ll be okay in a few hours,” Viv says. “The poison is out. The elixir will repair any damage. He just needs to sleep now.”
I scoop Tru off the couch, carrying him silently to my unit. “Please let me know if Vinni is spotted.”
“Of course,” Yves says.
Once inside my unit, I take Tru to bed, where I strip his dirty clothes off before going to the bathroom for a warm soapy cloth. When I return, I delicately wash his body until he’s clean. His eyelids flutter, and the word that leaves his lips sends shivers down my spine.
“Leander.”
“I’m here, Tru.”
A smile pulls at his lips, and as his eyes open and focus on me, he says something else that leaves me breathless.
“It took forever to find you again, but I did it. We were always meant to be, Leander. I know that now.”
“What are you saying, Tru?”
He squeezes my hand as his eyes close again. “Mon prince ténébreux,” he whispers. “I know what you are, Leander. I know.”
With wide eyes, I grip his shoulders, shaking gently, but his soft breaths and peaceful expression let me know he’s fallen asleep.
He knows what I am? Could it be? But how? My questions will have to remain unanswered until Tru wakes again.
ChapterTwenty-Six
TRU
Slowly, I become aware of my surroundings before I even open my eyes. I’m warm, wrapped in cozy blankets, and I can smell Midnight’s scent all around me. As soon as I stir, he’s next to me, stroking my forehead.
“Do you need water? Anything?” Midnight asks.
I curl into him, pressing my head against his chest. “I’m okay.”
“Any pain or discomfort?”
“None. What happened? I can’t remember anything after I called you.”
“Vinni drugged you.”
