Alex snorts, the arrogance of a confident man slipping into his eyes momentarily. “They can try,” he says, then he closes the distance between us and places a hand on my arms. "Listen, Blair, I've been holding back for so long, trying to deny my feelings for you. But you and I have always been inevitable. And now that I know what it’s like to be with you, I don’t care who stands in my way. I’m ready to fight for you. I am so in love with you, and I want to have a future with you, despite the challenges we may face."

My expression softens, and a small smile graces my lips. I can no longer resist this man. I’ve never been able to, anyway. "I've missed you," I confess, my voice barely above a whisper. "And I've been hoping that we would find a way to overcome this somehow."

In that instant, all uncertainty is gone, and a sense of peace washes over me. Alex gently unlinks my arms, taking my hands in his, and a warm smile spreads across his face. "Blair, I'm ready to embrace this new beginning, to explore what we could be together. Are you?"

I’m pretty sure my eyes are sparkling with a mixture of joy and relief as I nod frantically, my grip on his hands tightening. "Yes, Alex. Let's take that step forward together.”

Before I can gather my thoughts, my father's booming voice echoes through the hallway. "Alex! What in the world are you doing here?" His anger is palpable, and I can sense his protectiveness toward his only daughter.

“Dad, please…” I say quickly, hoping to diffuse whatever bomb is about to go off between both men. But my father ignores me.

“You have ten seconds to get the hell out of my house, young man,” he bellows, and I resist the urge to tell him that Alex is far from being a young man. That could only make things worse.

Alex stands tall, his expression a mix of determination and vulnerability. He drops my hand and takes a step forward, his gaze locked with my father's. "Sir, I know I've caused a great deal of turmoil, and I apologize for any distress I've brought upon you and Blair. But I'm here today to make things right."

My father's stern features soften as he listens to Alex's words, with curiosity and a hint of skepticism in his eyes. I can tell that he wants to believe in the sincerity behind those words, but his protectiveness is still on high alert.

With my heart pounding in my chest, I find my voice. "Dad, please listen to him. Let us explain."

Reluctantly, my father gestures for us to enter the living room. We gather around a large, ornate table, the atmosphere heavy with tension. Alex takes a deep breath and begins to speak, his words filled with honesty and conviction.

"Sir, I love your daughter with all my heart," he says, his voice steady and filled with emotion. "I know the circumstances surrounding our relationship have caused pain and uncertainty, but I can't deny what I feel for Blair. I want to marry her, to build a life together based on love, trust, and respect."

“What?” I exclaim. Did Alex just say that he wants to marry me? “What did you just say?” Both men ignore my outburst and continue speaking like I’m not even there.

My father's eyebrows shoot up, his gaze locked on Alex—a mixture of surprise and concern flickers across his face. "Marry? Are you prepared for the challenges that lie ahead? The media scrutiny, the judgment?"

Alex's eyes never waver as he meets my father's gaze. "I understand the challenges, sir. But Blair and I have realized that others should not dictate our happiness. We've learned from our mistakes, and we're ready to face whatever comes our way."

Silence fills the room as my father processes Alex's words. The weight of his decision seems to hang in the air, and I hold my breath, praying that he will find it in his heart to understand.

Finally, my father sighs, his stern expression softening. "Blair, Alex, I can see the sincerity in your eyes, the depth of your feelings for each other. While I can't deny the difficulties that lie ahead, I also can't deny my daughter's happiness."

Relief washes over me as my father's words sink in. A smile spreads across my face, tears glistening in my eyes. "Thank you, Dad," I whisper, my voice filled with gratitude.

My father rises from his seat, coming over to embrace both Alex and me. "I want nothing more than to see my daughter happy," he says, his voice filled with warmth. "If you both believe in your love and are willing to face the challenges head-on, then you have my blessing."

“Oh my god, Dad.” I envelop him in a hug, smiling so broadly my cheeks start to hurt. “Thank you so much. I love you.” I declare with tears brimming in my eyes.

My dad flashes a weathered smile at me. “I love you too, Pumpkin,” he replies. “Go and be happy with him if he’s the one you truly want.”

At that moment, a sense of freedom and joy envelops me. Alex and I no longer need to live in the shadows, hiding our love from the world. We are given permission to embrace our happiness, to live our lives authentically and without fear.

As we leave my father's house, hand in hand, a sense of peace settles within me. We decide to let go of the weight of public opinion to focus on the love that binds us together. The media may still scrutinize us, but we have found solace in each other's arms.

Back in his car, I let my arms go around Alex and kiss him to my heart’s content until neither of us can breathe. “Ask me.” I grin widely.

Just like that, he understands exactly what I’m demanding. Alex digs into his pocket and pulls out a tiny velvet box. He opens it to reveal the most beautiful diamond ring I’ve ever seen. “Will you make me the happiest man on earth and be my wife, Blair Osbourne.”

Immediately, I shout a resounding yes and watch as he slips the ring on my finger amidst happy tears and laughter.

Together, we embark on a new chapter of our lives, ready to face the challenges and embrace the joys that come with choosing love. And as we build a life together, hand in hand, we know that our love is strong enough to weather any storm.

And so, with hearts full of hope and a newfound sense of freedom, Alex and I walk hand in hand into our future, where we can finally live happily ever after.
