“Hey, Wynter,” Kane said, walking past us.
“Congrats!” She waved at him, smiling.
Something was off about that gorgeous smile, but I didn’t want to pressure her. I’d only been home for a few minutes. “Did you have a nice time with Janine?” I asked, leading us to my car.
“It was a quick trip, but it was good to see her.”
I unlocked the car and we climbed in. Firing up the engine, I blasted the heat before my girlfriend froze to death.
“Quinn?”
The fear in her tone scraped across my skin. “Yeah, beautiful?” I reached out and touched her cheek.
“Please don’t be mad at me, but we need to talk.” She visibly gulped, obviously nervous.
My leg bounced, and I held my breath ready for her to tell me what she was so stressed out about. No matter what came out of her mouth, I refused to let her go. “Are you leaving me?”
Her blue eyes widened. “No! No. But you might leave me.”
I stared at her, wondering what would be bad enough to leave her over. Hell, I knew her darkest secrets, and she knew mine. We’d climbed into hell and somehow found a light in each other.
“Did you mess around on me?”
“No. No, Quinn, I would never. But I lied to you when we were in Washington over Thanksgiving. I found Ky’s journal, and I wanted …neededto read it before I told you. I’m so sorry,” she blurted.
God, this woman was even more beautiful than when I left a few days ago. “I know.”
If the car door hadn’t been closed, Wynter would have fallen to the ground. “What?”
“You were gone when I woke up to take a piss. I saw a light underneath Kyler’s door, and I quietly peeked in. I saw you in the corner of the closet using your phone light. I knew you’d found it then, but I wanted to give you time to find out if there were any answers.” I swallowed hard, fear grabbing my chest. “I also needed time to prepare to learn the truth. All these years I made up shit in my head about what happened, and what if I was wrong? How would I deal with that shit? I figured by the time you read it, if there was anything important you would let me know. I gave both of us the space we needed. Not to mention, if it were Bell’s journal, I wouldn’t tell anyone until I’d read it. She wasmysister, and I would protect her last thoughts no matter what.”
“Oh my God!” Her cry filled the car as she crawled over the console and onto my lap. “I’m so sorry, Quinn. It killed me, but I had to understand what happened with him.”
I kissed her, wrapping my arms around her. My cock strained against my jeans as she straddled me, stirring my need to connect with her on every level.
“I would have done the same, Wynter. Don’t feel bad, beautiful.”
She nuzzled my neck, her tears kissing my skin.
“That’s why you needed to go home yesterday, isn’t it?” I rubbed her back, trying to calm her.
She nodded. “I finished the journal, but it left me hanging. Ky mentioned in the last entry there was a laptop in the wall. I went back for it.” She straightened, her eyes rimmed with red.
My fucking nerves were all over the place, but I had to know what she learned.
“Wynter,” I whispered, “did you find out the truth? Do you know why he turned on Bell?”
Wynter covered her face, full-on crying again, but she managed a nod.
“He didn’t kill her like we thought.” Her voice cracked, her agony tugging at my heart.
“What?”
“Ky didn’t kill Bell like we thought. It was a suicide pact, Quinn.”
I shook my head, refusing to believe that my twin would take her own life. How would I not have known how devastated she was. For a moment, I understood how Wynter felt about Ky.
“When you’re ready, I have the journal and laptop. Ky left videos. I can share with you what I know, but it will make more sense if you see it yourself.”
