Quinn pulled the Mercedes into a parking slot, then turned off the car. His gaze was full of kindness when he faced me. “That sounds like a lot of responsibility.”

I nodded. “It is sometimes.”

“Well, let me take you on some of your firsts, then. We can do anything you want. Dancing, karaoke, dinner, picnics. Whatever makes you happy.”

My eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Why me?”

Fuck, what is wrong with me, blurting shit like that out?

Quinn’s smile lit up his face. “Because you, Wynter Baldwin, are a mystery. You seem to know exactly what you want in life, but I can’t help wanting to know more. I like that. A lot.”

Instead of replying to him, my stomach growled in response.

Quinn chuckled. “Let’s get some food. I’m starving.”

Chapter19

Quinn

Ilaced my fingers with Wynter’s as I led her to the building. Her skin was smooth and warm, and the tenderness of her touch surprised me.

I glanced at her face, and what I saw—a hint of sadness that seemed permanently etched into her features—gave me pause. According to the file, she had spent her last two-and-a-half years of high school hiding from the world. I didn’t blame her. I suspected everyone in her life had turned on her. At least I had football and Brody after losing Bell. Wynter had kept to herself and seemed to have no friends.

Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the restaurant door and led Wynter inside. I could feel my chest constricting with sympathy for her, though I tried to push it away. I had a job to do, and it didn’t include getting too close to Wynter. After the hostess seated us in a corner booth, I ordered a soda while Wynter asked for a water.

“Are you a nibbler?” I asked, looking over the food options.

“Huh?” Wynter peeked over the top of her menu, her blue eyes sparkling even with the low light of the restaurant.

Shit, she’s beautiful. My dick woke the hell up and I shifted in my seat, trying to ease the discomfort. She didn’t know I’d already fucked her as the Red Dragon, but I planned on fucking her senseless as Quinn when I got the chance.

“Are you one of those people that orders dinner, then eats two bites, takes it home, then devours it? Or do you dig in, even in front of a guy? I’ve never understood it. I’ll eat everything in front of me.”

She leaned back in her seat, smiling. “If I’m hungry, I eat. I don’t care who is staring at me.” The corner of her mouth curled up.

My heart—the bastard organ—betrayed me, skipping a beat at the sight of her beautiful smile.

She’s the enemy, don’t forget what she’s done.A steely resolve swept over me.

“Excellent. Order whatever makes you happy.”

“Anything?” She stared at me and licked her bottom lip.

I met her smoldering gaze with mine. “Anything.” I wanted to jerk her up, take her to the bathroom where I could bend her over a sink, and fuck her until she was screaming my name. But I would have to wait.

The server interrupted our banter, and we placed our order. To my surprise, Wynter ordered a smaller New York steak, potato, and broccoli. I was impressed. If she ate most of it, I might have to reward her for good behavior and give her dessert.

She took a drink of water, then set her glass on the table. “Can I ask about your family?”

That was strange. Most people didn’t want permission, they just asked. But I assumed Wynter had a view from a different window than most, which probably made her more sensitive about the topic. She wanted to hide who she and her family were. Surprisingly, I understood since I felt the same about Bell and Adam.

I stretched my legs beneath the table, brushing her calf with mine.

“I live with Adam, my father who you had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting, along with my younger brother, Brody.”

“I would have preferred to meet—Adam?—another way.”

What I wouldn’t tell her was that he probably jerked off that night to the mental image of her on her knees with my cock stuffed in her hot little mouth. A shiver of disgust skated down my spine.
