The cops questioned Lena, who had almost slept through the entire thing. With her room on the other end of the mansion and away from ours, she was pretty much clueless about what happened since she wore earplugs. When they asked about Adam raping Bell, she nearly collapsed on the floor in tears, completely stunned.

It was almost one in the morning when the cops escorted Adam out of the house and into the back of a squad car. The police had grilled us hard about how Wynter learned about Bell, and she explained the videos to them. I was so fucking proud of her that I couldn’t see straight. She was my hero. I just wish I could have been Bell’s hero, too.

The rest of that evening was a blur. Brody came home from his friend’s to a huge mess, and Wynter helped me fill him in on Ky’s journal and the laptop. Wynter promised the police she would turn in the evidence against Dr. Metcalf the next day. I was guessing that we would make backups of the videos and take pics of the important journal entries in case they suddenly went missing. After the cops and media had covered up the first interview where Wynter went into depth about asking people to help Ky, I wasn’t taking any more chances.

“Let’s get the living room and kitchen cleaned up enough to have some food and a drink,” Leighton said, glancing around. “Quinn, it’s late, so how do you feel about having company for the night? I’m not sure leaving you and Brody alone is a good idea.”

“I wouldn’t leave him anyway,” Wynter chimed in.

“Yeah, but as the dust settles, you’re both going to need some friends to talk to,” Brie said. “I’ve been there. What you learned over the last few days will sneak up and bitch-slap you into next month.”

Wynter tilted her head, staring at Brie. I knew Brie spoke from experience because Kane had confided in me. Maybe one day the two girls could speak openly. Brie would probably make a great friend for Wynter.

As mentally and physically exhausted as I was, my mind still ran rampant. Wynter had uncovered the truth about Ky and why the shooting had happened. It would be interesting to see how the evidence played out against Dr. Metcalf and his business partner. Hell would be too good for them in my opinion. I suspected that, since Dr. Metcalf molested Ky and brainwashed him, he would find another kid to victimize if he hadn’t already. The son of a bitch had to be stopped.

The girls took a shell-shocked Brody with them while they cleaned up the kitchen and located some frozen pizzas. It would give him something else to think about surrounded by several gorgeous ladies. Gabby made drinks for everyone, too.

Kane sat next to me on the couch. “The house looks like it does after a party.” He cracked a smile. “I won’t ask if you’re okay because I know better.” He flexed his fingers, then tossed an imaginary football in the air. When Kane was stressed, he ran football plays in his head.

“I’m fucked up, man.” I scrubbed my hands over my face, the girls’ voices trickling in from the kitchen. I took a drink of my rum and Coke, hoping it would knock the edge off. “Adam knew how to play me, too. He used my hatred for Ky and Wynter against me and set it all up. It just took me forever to figure out his angle.”

“I get it. I hated Brie, too. It’s that blind anger that ruins us until we can see reality. But you did, man. You and Wynter figured shit out together. It should help now that you know what happened with Bell. In Ky’s mind, he was protecting her and himself.”

“That’s what the entire thing was about, too. Adam wanted me to get rid of Wynter so I wouldn’t learn what was happening … that he was hurting Bell.” Bile swam up my throat, and I forced it down. “It probably never crossed his mind that I would fall in love and Wynter would uncover the truth.”

“A pretty fucked-up truth at that. Listen, be patient with yourself. Stay focused on all the good in your life—your potential career with the NFL, Wynter, your friends. That’s what gets me through the hard days.”

I looked at him, then took another drink. “You saved me from being arrested. Hell, you and Wynter saved my future. I can’t ever repay you for that, but thanks.”

Kane tipped his chin at me. “We’re bros, Quinn. I’ve trusted you with some dark shit, too. We have each other’s backs. If we make it to the NFL, we’ll still have each other’s backs.”

“Always.”

We sat in silence, listening to the girls’ chatter in the kitchen. The oven timer dinged, then Kane and I joined them. It was nice to be surrounded by my people and not have to worry about Adam coming home.

Chapter52

Quinn

Isat in the society’s office, waiting. It was time to walk away, but I knew that Wynter and I could still use the rooms if we wanted. I was game if she was.

A lot had happened over the last two weeks, and Adam had been officially charged with child abuse and possession of child porn. He would be lucky if he got out of prison before he died on those counts alone.

The police had practically salivated over Ky’s journal and laptop with the evidence against Dr. Metcalf and Dr. Craig. After both items had been reviewed and validated as authentic, the bastards were thrown behind bars and now waited for their trials.

I hoped that somewhere Ky and Bell were watching as the truth unfolded. Even though Ky had pulled the trigger and I still had a lot of anger toward him, I understood that he’d been strongly influenced by a sick man. At first, I wasn’t too keen on the idea about brainwashing, but then they found recordings of Dr. Metcalf’s meditative hypnosis music he’d given Ky. It was way more than just music and Dr. Metcalf telling him to take deep breaths and clear his mind. The doctor had filtered in a subliminal message that included plans to shoot up the high school. Ky had been listening to that every night for months. Metcalf’s records were located in his home, and it came out that it had all been a game, an experiment to the doctor to see if he could truly control another human being. Ky had just been a pawn the entire time.

My phone buzzed, and I removed it from my back pocket to see Remington’s text pop up.

She’s here. I told her to strip and secure herself after I left.

Perfect.

That day, I didn’t use the skull mask or dress in black. Wynter knew exactly who I was, and for the first time in my life, I no longer felt as if I had to hide it.

I pocketed my phone and left the office, strolling down the hall to the room where Wynter waited for me. Slipping inside, my eyes drank her in and my cock sprang to attention.

“Hi, beautiful.” And that she was—naked with one wrist handcuffed to the bed, waiting for me to do as I wished with her body.
