“Of course,” she reassured him, though her tone was a little impatient.
He nodded and opened the bag, only to see white wrapping paper. He slowly stuck his still shaking hand inside and pulled out the paper.
Niev took it out of his hand and gave him an encouraging smile. “It’s at the very bottom.”
He nodded, put his hand inside again, and felt a soft fabric on his fingertips. He grabbed a hold of it and pulled it out to reveal it was a pink baby onesie. His heart skipped a few beats as he realized what this meant.
“A girl?” he coaxed.
She nodded. “There is another onesie in there for the other baby.” Her voice was a mere whisper and tears of joy started to flood her eyes.
He quickly reached into the bag again and pulled out another onesie. He stopped breathing, his heart had stopped, and tears of relief ran down his cheeks as he held up two pink onesies.
“They are both girls?”
She leaped down and wrapped her arms around his neck. “You’re having two daughters, Blake.” Her voice shaking, tears running down her face as she kissed his cheek.
“Daughters?”
“Yes, my love,” she reassured him.
His whole body shook, the relief intensely unimaginable. His heart felt lighter, and his shoulders had been freed from a weight that had been crushing him since she’d revealed her pregnancy.
She wrapped her arms even tighter around him. “Christa made sure that the tests were reverified a hundred times.”
He took his eyes off the two onesies in his hands and turned his head toward her. “Since when do you know?”
She looked a little guilty. “For a week. I wanted to tell you so bad, but I also wanted to make it special for you and include everyone else.”
Only then did he remember everyone else who was in the room and looked around. His mother was wiping away tears, as were Layla and Lyliann. His father looked prouder than he’d ever seen him. Michael was holding Aaron in his arms and was explaining to Alizia what had just happened, and Seth was grinning from ear to ear.
Seth leaned closer and chuckled. “Good luck with that. You’re officially outnumbered in your own home.”
Blake pulled Niev into his lap and pressed his lips to hers, pouring all his relief and love into it. He was out of words, and he wanted her to know how happy he was. This was so much more than just revealing the babies’ gender. His future now looked brighter than ever. He’d tried not to let his worry about his alpha blood take over the happiness he’d been feeling, yet it had hovered over him like a dark cloud. Now that the cloud had disappeared, his heart and soul filled with pure joy and excitement for the future. He released Niev’s lips and looked down at her, gently rubbing her bump. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” she blushed and looked around. “I’m sorry.”
His father looked at her with a loving expression. “We are thankful you had us all be part of this.”
His mother was still tearing up. “I’m so happy for both of you.”
Niev laid her head on his shoulder and gently caressed his face with her fingers. “I’m sorry I made you wait this long.”
He pulled her even closer. “I’m glad you waited for everyone to be here with us.”
“Well, that was a shocker,” Tristan said, seemingly still trying to process the whole situation.
Olivia slowly leaned over Tristan toward Blake and Niev. “Congratulations.”
Tristan looked at her as if he only now saw clearly. “You knew she was having twins.”
Olivia quickly jumped back with fearful pleading eyes resting on Tristan. “Please don’t be mad. I promised Niev not to tell anyone.” She was clearly scared and that broke Blake’s heart. She’d learned over the years to fear a man’s reaction so badly, that it was now embedded into her soul.
Tristan must have thought the same. He gently leaned toward her and took her hands in his. “I could never be mad at you. Please don’t be scared. You’ve done nothing wrong.” He turned to Blake. “You on the other hand–I am mad at you.”
Niev giggled. “That was my fault, I didn’t want him to tell anyone.”
Tristan turned back to Olivia and continued with a soft, gentle voice. “You don’t need to be afraid of me. I’ll never hurt you.”
