“I told mother and father about the twins. Mother promised not to treat you like a child. I know I should’ve waited for you, and I hope you forgive me.”
“I think I’d rather have it this way than any other. Did you keep our promise toward Seth? Did he see Mayra’s reaction?”
He laughed and held her even tighter. “Yes, he was there, and I don’t think he’ll ever forget it.”
Niev wiggled her way out of his hug and looked down at herself. She cringed at what she saw. She was still covered in blood, making her feel uncomfortable.
“I want to take a shower.”
“Are you sure? Are you strong enough for it?”
“Yes, I think I’ll be good. The hot water will help me relax a little. If you like, you can help me get to the bathroom.”
He gladly helped her out of the bed and walked her to the bathroom with his arm around her waist. She tried to look strong, but he could see that she was still feeling weak.
While he was waiting on Niev, he dressed himself and changed the bloody sheets on the bed. When he no longer heard the water running, he grabbed her something comfortable to wear and helped her get dressed.
They both walked downstairs, in need of food and water. The chaos had been cleaned up, the broken table and chairs had been replaced, and most of the blood had been cleaned up or hidden underneath a rug. Seth and Lyliann were sitting on the sofa watching Alizia and Darron play. Both children got up and jumped toward Niev, hugging her and touching her belly.
“Two babies! Aunt Niev, you’re having two babies!” Alizia squeaked in excitement. “Selene only chooses the best women to have twins. She must love you very much.”
Niev kneeled down and pulled them both closer. “And she only chooses the strongest, bravest, and loving children to be cousins of twins.” She gave them both a kiss on the forehead. “Now tell me, have you met the baby yet?”
“Yes! I even slept with Mamie, Daddy, and Aaron in the same bed. Mamie and Daddy are very tired, so they nearly slept all day.”
“You have a baby brother, that’s wonderful!” Niev cheered, smiling from ear to ear.
“Yes, he’s really wonderful. Although he sleeps too much. I can barely play with him. He always wants to sleep!”
“The older he gets the more he’ll be awake and then you and Darron can both show him the world.”
“And when your babies are here, we three can show them the world.” Alizia beamed as she rubbed Niev’s stomach.
“Of course, you can.” Niev gave her another kiss on the forehead and got back up. She turned to Blake and blushed. “Can you grab me some food? I want to sit down a little.”
She’d never asked him to do anything for her, and it proved how exhausted she still was. He helped her to the couch where she sat next to Seth while Lyliann took Darron and Alizia upstairs and into bed.
As Blake prepared Niev a few sandwiches and some orange juice, he overheard her and Seth talk.
“I heard you had the pleasure of watching Mayra hear the twin news. Did she faint as Blake predicted?”
“No, even though she was pretty close to doing so. How are you feeling?”
“Good, I suppose, a little tired. Please tell me it’s all over now.” Her tone was pleading which broke Blake’s heart.
Blake looked over his shoulder to see Seth pulling her into a gentle hug. Seth had always been someone to keep people at a certain distance. Being a future alpha had hardened him in certain ways. Seeing him hug and comfort Niev was surreal.
“You no longer have to worry. We defeated the Skadu Wolves, and they are no longer a threat.”
Niev let out a long-relieved breath. “Thank you.”
Seth let go of her and leaned back against the couch. “It should be the other way around. All of this could’ve ended very differently if you wouldn’t have been around.”
Niev blushed and tried to hide her emotions. “So, everyone can return to their homes again?”
“Yes.”
“And the Skadu Pack? What will happen to them now?”
