Tanner came closer and with sad eyes hesitantly reached for Blake. He ran his large hand through his son’s hair, gently caressing him. It only took a moment before his face straightened again. He’d clearly learned to separate his emotions, and Niev assumed he had to do so for his pack. Tanner then quickly leaned down to Mayra, kissing her forehead.
“Watch over them and let me know when he wakes up. As soon as the first families arrive in the village, they’ll need your guidance.”
She nodded and lovingly stroked his cheek. “Of course.”
Tanner walked out the front door with heavy footsteps leaving the three women and Blake to themselves.
Christa gently laid her hand on Niev’s shoulder. “Come, let’s clean you up so you can get some rest too.”
His Love And Savior
Blake’s mind was clouded. He couldn’t form a clear thought, sinking into darkness over and over. Every time he thought his mind would clear and the clouds would lighten, he would sink back into unconsciousness. He woke up again and was trying to remember what had happened, but all he could feel was an intolerable pain, a pain he couldn’t explain. He didn’t understand what had happened to him. He focused his mind, trying to remember before he slipped into unconsciousness again.
He remembered a beautiful woman smiling at him as he ran toward her. She had dark, curly hair and bright blue eyes. Her name was Niev, and he knew she was special to him. He should’ve been happy to see her, but he felt great fear. As he was picturing her, a shadow appeared behind her, the scent of bloodlust and adrenaline filling the air. A big, red wolf stood behind her growling.
“Niev.” His voice was weak, and it hurt his throat to speak.
He started feeling more than the pain. He felt his body move and his mind free itself from the darkness surrounding him. He opened his eyes, ready to fight the wolf, ready to save his beloved woman and unborn child. His vision was blurry and even though he tried, he couldn’t move. Hands were holding him down. He tried to fight them, but his body wouldn’t move.
“Blake, you’re safe.” His mother’s calm, soft voice tried to comfort him.
He instantly stopped fighting whoever was holding him down and let his eyes focus. He saw his mother’s face hovering above his, her hands on his shoulder.
“Careful, your body is still healing.” Christa’s voice was as calm as his mother’s. Turning his head, he saw her on his other side.
He tried to move and look for Niev, needing to know that she was safe and sound. “Niev?” he coaxed, his throat dry and rough.
“She’s safe and resting.” Christa stepped aside, and Blake was able to see Niev curled up on Christa’s couch “She’s exhausted, but all is well.”
“Baby?” It still hurt his throat to talk but he needed to know if his child was alive.
“Perfectly healthy.”
He took a deep breath as his worry slowly faded away.
“Would you like something to drink? Your throat sounds dry,” his mother asked, gently caressing his shoulder.
He nodded and Christa went to fetch a glass of water.
He tried to sit up, but his muscles were sore and wouldn’t obey him. His mother’s hand slipped underneath his shoulders and helped him up. The sudden change in elevation made his head spin and it was hard to focus his eyes. He had to blink a few times until he was able to see clearly again.
Niev was still curled up on the couch, her back turned toward him. Christa returned with a glass and handed it to him, the cold water feeling good on his throat and relieving some of the pain.
“How?”
Christa pointed at Niev. “Your mate saved your life. She showed a kind of strength that I haven’t seen before.”
That didn’t explain anything. It only confused him even more, so he repeated his question. “How?”
His mother gently touched his shoulder again. “When she saw the wolves attacking you, she chose to take matters into her own hands.” His mother’s voice was filled with pride. “She attacked a third wolf before he was able to get to you and slashed open his face with a knife. Seth found you two badly injured. She was laying over you trying to protect your unconscious body, while she herself was hanging on by a thread. Tristan carried you here. You were barely alive. Seth and Kai brought Niev here with the truck. Seth was too afraid to carry her. She was bleeding worse than you, so Kai drove the truck while Seth tried to stop the bleeding. To everyone’ssurprise, when they arrived, she ran past us with no sign of injury. She ran directly to you.”
Blake sighed. He’d wanted to tell his family about Niev’s gift at the right moment. They barely knew her, and he wanted them to get to know her a little better before throwing something like her gift into their faces.
“I thought we had more time to tell you. She has a healing gift and heals even faster than us.”
Christa continued the story. “Her blood was all over you. That’s the only reason you made it to me alive. Her blood healed you. It took us a while to figure that out, but after we did, she healed your worst wounds, the ones I wasn’t able to take care of.” Christa spoke in awe, looking at Niev with pure admiration in her eyes.
“I’ll let father know that you’re awake. He needs to speak with you.” His mother gave him a slight nudge and walked outside.
