I smiled despite her obvious unease. “Sorry, but we don’t suffer any human conditions, remember?”
“At least I get to give Clement a piece of my mind, then.”
ThatI looked forward to. And I was certain Clement would enjoy the challenge too.
“As there’s no way out of this, I have a request.”
“Fire away.”
She looked from Jeanie to Mac. “I’d like you two to come with us. You’re my family now, and as it’s a special event, I want you with us.”
Jeanie hugged Donna, followed by Mac. I held my emotions in check, but it made me so happy to know that my mate loved this couple as much as I did.
“Done,” I announced.
“We’re going to have so much fun choosing dresses online.” Jeanie beamed.
I saw Donna’s face drop.
I lifted her chin. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t have any money. I can’t rely on charity.”
“Look, what’s mine is yours, and trust me, I have more money than I can ever spend.”
“It’s true, love. Ask any mated couple. Finances have been taken care of. Plus, by keeping your territories safe, you more than earn what you have.”
That seemed to appease her.
“Okay, I’m down with that. We’ll start looking tomorrow.”
Jeanie grinned. “I can’t wait.”
“Can we go fly now, please?”
As she asked me, her eyes were alive with excitement. How could I say no when she looked so adorable? Also, I had a plan for afterwards. I remembered something she’d said to me a while ago, and after the way she’d teased me earlier, I couldn’t wait.
ChapterSeventeen
Donna
Ihonestly hated big parties with a vengeance, but I got the impression I didn’t have a say about whether I wanted to go or not. Better to give in gracefully and go with the flow. At least I’d have Mac and Jeanie in my corner.
Antoine headed for the balcony outside the living room. My excitement was rising at the prospect of flying with him. I gazed up at the sky and smiled. The sun was shining brightly and there was a gentle breeze blowing in off the sea. We walked down onto the sand, and he stood to face me.
“First thing you need to do is learn how to become invisible. I don’t think we want the humans to see us flying around.”
I laughed. “Good call. We’ll have the armed forces down here looking for little green men in spaceships.”
“Okay, this is what I need you to do. Start at the top of your head and slowly work down to your feet. Imagine each part of you becoming invisible. Look, watch me first.”
He made it look so simple that I wondered if it would be more difficult trying to do it myself. The air shimmered around Antoine, although I could still see him.
“That’s because of our bond. You’ll also be able to see other Hybrids and demons when they’re invisible too. Now.” He folded his arms over his chest. “Your turn.”
I closed my eyes and worked from my head downwards. There was a kind of buzzing while I did this, magic maybe.
“Yes, it’s the energy you’re using.”
