When Colbie told Dallis she didn’t want to do anything over the top for her birthday, he hadn’t had a problem with that. He decided to take her somewhere within the state where she hadn’t been before. She’d only lived in Arizona for three years, so Dallis was sure she hadn’t seen many of the different cities.
He was taking her to Lake Havasu City. It was a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Chandler, and he had a list of things to do over the week they would be there. He planned on taking her to see London Bridge, the beach, SARA park, and the aquarium.
Dallis had planned for them to spend the day getting to where they were staying and taking her to dinner. Her birthday was on Monday. So, Dallis had three days before he’d be giving her his gift. He’d planned the entire day out and wanted it to be special.
He pulled off onto the correct exit, and once he did, Colbie placed the address of the condo they’d be staying in into the GPS, and they followed the directions to get there. Dallis wanted somewhere that wouldn’t be too far from any places he planned to take her.
Fifteen minutes later, they pulled into the parking lot of the condo building. Dallis found a parking space close to the door and popped the trunk. Getting out, he grabbed both of their suitcases from the back. Dallis followed Colbie inside and into the elevator. They were staying on the fourth floor, and the one he’d chosen had a view of the lake and mountains.
Once they made it to the door, Colbie entered the code they were given into the lockbox and removed the key from it when it opened. She opened the door, and they headed inside. The entrance opened up into the kitchen and living room. The far wall housed a sliding door and windows, and Dallis knew the balcony ran from the living room to the bedroom.
He hadn’t looked for anything large when looking for a place for them to stay. It was just the two of them. So, he searched for something similar to when they’d gone to Cabo San Lucas. Colbie liked those accommodations, so he wanted something that resembled that for them, and it hadn’t been hard.
Dallis allowed Colbie to look around as he made his way to the bedroom. He placed both suitcases by the closet before returning to the living room. He found Colbie on the balcony and made his way to her. Dallis wrapped his arms around her waist.
“This view is beautiful,” she stated, leaning back into his chest.
“It has nothing on you, baby.”
Colbie turned in his arms and wrapped hers around his neck. “Flattery will get you everywhere.”
He leaned down and kissed her. “It isn’t flattery if it’s true,” Dallis spoke against her lips. He gave her another peck before pulling away. “Today, I thought we’d hang out here and then go to dinner tonight.”
“Okay. At some point, we should probably go to the grocery store.”
“We can do that after dinner if you want.”
Colbie nodded at him, removing her arms from around his neck. “Let’s go watch a movie.” She took his hand and led him back inside.
Dallis closed the sliding door behind them, and Colbie pulled him over to the couch. She slipped her shoes off, tucking one of her feet under her as she picked up the remote and handed it to him. Dallis raised a brow at her. Typically, when she suggested they watch a movie, she already had one in mind.
“You choose.”
Dallis turned the television on, wrapping his arm around Colbie as she leaned into his side. He went to theNetflixapp, chose the movie category, and then chose the play something option, placing the remote down. Whatever came on would be what they watched. Colbie didn’t seem to mind as the movie started, and she realized what it was. Dallis had never seen it before, but it seemed as if it was one that she enjoyed.
They were twenty minutes into the movie when he pulled out his phone, texting his mom and letting her know they had made it. He didn’t want to deal with her chastising him later for taking so long to do so, like last time. She worried whenever he traveled. He was sure there would never be a day that she didn’t.
There was a gunshot in the movie, and the person on the screen was now missing one of their eyes. That took Dallis by surprise because it came out of nowhere. It didn’t stop there. Someone advanced on the character and cut one of their arms off. He hadn’t known what kind of movie it was when it started, but clearly, it was something with a lot of gore as blood sprayed everywhere. The film definitely had his attention at this point.
When the movie ended, Dallis made a mental note to watch it again at some point. Colbie stood and stretched before grabbing her shoes and making her way into the bedroom.
“Baby, I think I’m going to take a nap,” Colbie called from the bedroom.
Dallis got up and walked in, leaning against the doorframe. “Are you tired, beautiful?”
“Considering someone kept me up until the wee hours of the morning. I’d say I was.”
She was already in bed, and Dallis walked over to her. “I wonder who that could have been.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead. “When do you want me to wake you up?”
“In about an hour and a half. I don’t want to sleep too long, or I might be up all night.”
Dallis smirked at her. “That may happen anyway.”
Colbie rolled her eyes playfully at him before lying down on her side, and Dallis made his way back into the living room, closing the bedroom door behind him. Her taking a nap worked in his favor because Dallis wanted to call and make sure a part of her birthday celebration was confirmed and set up.
He sat on the couch, pulling his phone back out and finding the needed information. It was their first birthday as a couple, and he wanted to ensure everything was in order. He’d stuck to what she wanted and not gone overboard, but they were still going to celebrate her day because, without it, he wouldn’t have her.
