“I didn’t think you were supposed to be back for another week,” Hayden spoke from beside him.

“I only got a week. Not two,” Callie responded. “I would have blown my shit had they given me two weeks when she started it.”

Dallis laughed. Callie had gotten suspended for a week because Delilah bumped into her but had expected Callie to apologize. When she hadn’t, Delilah, who in his opinion was too fucking tall and resembled a giraffe, had tried to intimidate a five-foot-four Callie with her height, but it hadn’t gone too well for her. She had received an ass whooping that her great-grandchildren would feel in the womb.

“I mean, that Amazonian bitch bumped into me and wanted me to apologize,” Callie scoffed.

“She thought her height would scare you,” Hayden threw in.

“Yeah, well, we see what thinking got her,” Callie snorted. “Bitch the door.”

Dallis laughed. “I can’t stand you.”

“But...you have to love me. So, suck it up.”

“You don’t always have to love your family,” Hayden told her.

“I didn’t ask you, Hayden,” Callie responded as she slid off Dallis’ back at her first-period class when he stopped.

“I’ll see you at lunch. Bye, Dallis. Bye, Doofus.”

Dallis and Hayden continued to their first period. “Your cousin is so mean to me.”

“She’s not mean. She’s just a smart ass. Some people can only take her in small doses.” He shrugged. “But, I practically grew up with her since we’re only two years apart. I’m used to it. You’ve known her your whole life too. So, it shouldn’t faze you.”

“True, but it’s like she got her period and decided it was time for a life change.”

Dallis couldn’t help but laugh and then pull a face. “Let’s not talk about my little cousin’s periods. Okay?”

With that, they walked into their first-period class. They waited for the bell to ring and for the teacher, who was never on time to start class.

Dallis walked into his history class and was disappointed to see that they had a sub. His mind immediately went to Colbie, saying she would tell the principal on him, but he hadn’t been called to the office, so he knew she hadn’t done that. He hoped nothing happened to her, and she just needed a little time away from him.

Taking his seat, he completely zoned out. The only reason he ever paid attention in class was so he could listen to Colbie’s voice and admire her body. Memorize those curves; so he knew just how to test drive them.

It seemed that history was going unusually slow since his Goddess wasn’t there. The sub they had was monotone as she read the chapter from the book as if they couldn’t read it themselves. Even as he tried to tune her out, her voice pushed through to him and wrecked his outer zone.

To say he was more than happy when that class was over was an understatement. He couldn’t have gotten out of there fast enough. While he usually chose to linger and be the last one out, today, he was first, and Hayden teased him about it as they walked to their next class.

Dallis pulled up to the address his dad had been able to get for him. He pulled in behind her car and got out. Dallis had stopped by the store and gotten some soup and orange juice if she was sick. He had also gone to the florist and bought two dozen roses. They weren’t an apology. An apology insinuated that you wanted to take back something you did, and he had no intentions of taking back the kiss he’d shared with her.

Ringing the doorbell, Dallis held the flowers in front of his face so she wouldn’t see him and assume it was a delivery boy. He wasn’t stupid. She would never answer the door if she saw that it was him. Well, not at first. He was sure he would be able to talk her down, but that would take a while.

He had learned from the best, his father, his two uncles, and a family friend, Marco. His Aunt Christa worked with the man’s cousin at his custom bike shop. Dallis had been impressed the first time he’d heard him talk to a woman. Even without his accent, Dallis was sure that Marco could have talked the woman’s panties off her right there in downtown Albuquerque.

They had spent Thanksgiving with his Aunt several years ago when he met him and Elias. While Elias was also smooth, he wasn’t near as smooth as Marco, and Dallis chalked that up to age. However, he planned on breaking that restriction. He didn’t see why he couldn’t be young and smooth as hell.

The door opened, and he waited until he thought she had stepped over the threshold before lowering the flowers. He could tell by the widening of her eyes that she had not expected to see him.

“Hello, Colbie,” he greeted, giving her a smile that he hoped had liquid pooling in the seat of her panties.

Taking a step forward, he watched her as she instinctively took a step back, trying to keep the distance between them. He didn’t mind. It was what he wanted. When he back peddled her enough to be able to shut the door, he did just that.

He looked around her house. It was nice. He could tell that she had decorated it herself. It had the same feel as her classroom at school, which she decorated far too well for the purpose it served. It put all the other teacher’s classrooms to shame.

The floor plan was a bit open. From where Dallis stood, he could make out the living room, dining room, and kitchen. There was also a hall almost directly in front of him.

Going to the bar, he placed the sack he held on top of it before turning to her again. She was watching him. Like she was prey cornered by a predator that would attack any minute, and damn it, did he want to attack. Instead, he took his mother’s advice from that morning to take it slow.
