Once the ride finished, she was all smiles, making Dallis smile along with her. They were walking by a booth when she pulled him to a stop.

“Let’s get our name on rice,” she stated.

Dallis raised an eyebrow at her. “On rice?”

“Yes,” she responded, pulling him over to the booth.

“You know we’ll more than likely lose it, right?”

“No, they’ll put them in a little container,” she told him, gesturing to them.

If Dallis were honest, he would say he didn’t understand getting their names on rice, but she seemed excited about it. So, he was going to do it for her.

They spent the next ten minutes getting their names written on two pieces of rice apiece. Then one with each of their names was placed into two little containers. Colbie said yes when the salesman asked if they wanted them made into necklaces. He got a black link, and she got a white one.

Dallis watched as she put hers on before holding his up. He leaned down as she got on her tiptoes to put it on him. When she had it on him, she took a small step away.

“Can we get something to eat?”

“We can do anything you want, baby.”

“Great. Let’s go find some curly fries.”

This time it was her grabbing his hand and leading him through the carnival. Dallis had to smile to himself. It seemed that she was getting comfortable even if it was just the carnival atmosphere bringing it out.

Colbie reached over and took one of Dallis’ chili cheese curly fries. They had found a booth, and she’d gotten plain fries while he had gotten his all fancy. She was eating hers but had to admit his looked good as well.

“Babe, if you wanted chili cheese fries, why didn’t you just get them?” he questioned her.

“I didn’t want them, but yours look good,” she responded, taking another one and eating it.

After finishing their fries, they went back to walking around the carnival. As they did, they each placed a mint in their mouths. They passed by a bathroom when Colbie told him she would be back.

Going into the bathroom, she took care of business before washing her hands. When she went outside, she saw a girl, probably about sixteen talking to Dallis.

She watched them for a moment, making her wonder what the hell she was doing there with him. It also made her wonder what it was he wanted with her. Though he had told her, she still had difficulty believing it. He looked good with the brunette girl.

Bitch, if you don’t stop thinking about that depressing shit and go over there and get our man,GiGi demanded.

Colbie sighed. She hated to admit it, but her inner voice was right. There was something different about Dallis other than that he was six years her junior. She also hadn’t dated since Will, and she wanted to get to know him. That meant she had to get past the reservation about him being her student because that was honestly the only one she had, and he’d made clear he didn’t have the patience to wait. She had gotten over his age because he was nineteen and legal.

Getting her thoughts together, she decided to do what her inner voice told her—going over to where they stood. Dallis reached out and pulled her into his side. He leaned down and kissed her temple.

“You ready, gorgeous?”

“Yeah,” Colbie responded.

She watched as he nodded to the brunette before they walked off. Colbie glanced up at him as they made their way through the crowd.

“Good conversation?” she questioned. Though she was sure, GiGi was speaking.

Dallis leaned down and kissed her forehead. “I wouldn’t know. I tuned her out.”

“Right.”

“I did. I don’t have a reason to entertain little girls when I have the woman I want. I’ve been captured and don’t want to be released,” he told her. “Now, let’s go ride the Ferris wheel.”
