Ava scrolls on her phone. “The police have finally agreed it’s a copycat killer.”

“Took them long enough,” I mutter.

“I don’t know,” Jasper muses, his hands in his jeans pockets. His white hood is pulled over his head, and his blonde hair sticks out from beneath. “There hasn’t been another attack for almost a week. It could be over.”

Hayley shakes her head and loops her arm through mine. “My gut tells me it isn’t over.”

“Your gut?” laughs Kit.

“Don’t make fun of me. We all have gut feelings sometimes.”

We turn the corner. The hallway is bustling with students on their way to lessons, and we slow to a halt as we near the classroom. There’s a commotion outside it, with tons of students shoving at each other to have a look inside.

I share a look with Jasper beside me before pushing ahead. The crowd parts when they notice it’s me. Jasper crashes into my back as I come to a stumbling halt inside the doors.

“What the fuck?” he breathes out.

The others slide in beside us.

Scrawled on the whiteboard in bright, red letters are the words:

You thought it was over? The games have only just begun.

“It’s a joke, right?” Hayley’s voice trembles.

Ava has her hand clamped over her mouth, tears beading on her lashes.

“It’s a practical joke,” Kit growls, wrapping his arm protectively around Kara. “There are thousands of students here. Some pathetic dickhead thought it’d be fun to worry everyone.” We share a dark look as a muscle tics in his jaw.

“We need to call off King’s dare,” Hayley says, turning her back on the writing and sweeping her eyes over our little group.

“Why?” Jasper asks, laughing incredulously. “What has this got to do with a stupid dare?”

She shuts the door and flips the lock to the soundtrack of annoyed, curious students outside who want to catch a glimpse for themselves. “Nothing. However, that,” she points at the wall, “is directly related to Keira, and if King starts fucking her…” Hayley falls silent, swallowing thickly. “It makes us all a target.”

Dragging my tongue over my teeth, I shrug. “Well, if that’s the case, then we’re already a target.”

“I fucking knew it!” Kit blurts excitedly, punching the air. “You can’t lie for shit, man.” He slides his pointed finger over the group. “Who’s ready to pay up?”

“No fucking way,” Jasper argues. “So what if he’s dipped it in her cunt? He has to fuck her at the fair.”

“I’m not going to the fair,” I tell them, but no one listens.

Hayley rolls her eyes. “Look, the dare is over. King has already fucked her.” She studies me briefly. “And numerous times, by the looks of it. So it won’t be a challenge at all to fuck her at the fair, will it?”

“Still not going to the fucking fair,” I mutter.

Ava sighs. “Can we please try to focus on what’s important?”

Jasper ignores her. “Let’s up the stakes. He has to fuck her with Liam in the same room.”

“It’s a fair. There are no fucking rooms.”

“Behind a tent. Whatever.”

Rubbing a hand over my face, I growl, “Just fucking forget about it. I don’t give a shit about the dare.”

Kara winks at me at the same time Ava throws her hands up and walks out, unlocking and throwing open the door.
