His lips come down on mine, more urgent. Then he breaks away and a mischievous smile pulls at his lips. “At least tell me I’m better in bed than her.”
Throwing my head back, a peal of laughter bubbles from my chest. “No one beats you in bed,” I reassure him, sliding my arms around his neck and pulling him down to my level. “You’re the only one who knows what I need.”
“The chase, right?”
I smile as our breaths mingle between our swollen lips. “And the pain.”
“The humiliation.” He buries his fingers in my hair when he says it. Then he pulls, and it hurts.
“I like Madison. She’s nice but can’t give me what I need like you can.”
“No one can.” His teeth sink into my lip, and he licks up the blood rushing to the surface. “And no one can give me what I need like you can.”
My breath comes out in a shudder. I whisper, “I like the sound of that,” so quietly that it’s a miracle he hears it. King lifts me up and guides my legs around his waist as he presses me against the graffitied wall. His lips are hot on mine, his big hands slipping beneath my sweater to trail over my ribs.
“Madison will wonder where I am.”
“Do you know how much I missed you?”
“Tell me.”
King nips my jaw. “I was going fucking crazy in prison. They wouldn’t let me call you.”
Craning my neck, I stare up at the fluorescent light overheard while King peppers kisses over my neck. “Why did they release you? Lack of evidence?”
His lips trail back up to my mouth, and he kisses me once. “They were going to press charges against me. But then they came to my cell this morning and said there had been a development in the case, and that I was free to go.”
“Did they say what?” I’m curious now. Maybe this nightmare will be over soon.
King shakes his head and lowers me to my feet before discreetly adjusting his hard dick. “They wouldn’t say.”
“At least they let you go.” I reach for his tattooed hand.
“It was only a matter of time.”
My hand looks so small in his. Small and pale.
“You sound so sure.”
His thumb strokes over my knuckles as I chew on my chapped lip.
“After my dad was arrested…” I flit my gaze up to his face, needing him to understand why I’m so broken and why I sometimes make such shitty decisions. “I got really scared when you left with them. Then I didn’t hear from you…”
He pulls on my hand, and I step into his embrace. “Baby, I’m sorry. I’m not going anywhere.”
“What if we get caught? What if they find Liam?” I whisper, curling my fingers in the hem of his black T-shirt.
“We’re not gonna get caught.”
“You sound so sure. I’ve killed people, King.”
He inhales my scent, his nose buried deep in my hair, his arms wrapped tight around me. “I am sure. Bonnie and Clyde, remember? We’ll be fine, baby. No matter what.”
As we exit the bathroom, Madison is discarding her empty bag of popcorn in the overfilled trashcan outside. The movie is over, and the other visitors are filing out of the theatre behind her.
Looking up, she narrows her eyes at me as we walk over to her. Keira can’t see it, but Madison is a rat. Manipulative, smart, and cunning. She’s certainly not as innocent as she wants everyone to believe she is. She’s not that loyal, either, which means she hopes to gain some leverage over Keira by helping her out.
When we near, she tosses a big, toothy smile in Keira’s direction. “Look who got out.”
