The paper stayed with him the rest of the day and at seven that evening he found himself heading into the dorm where she resided. He had to figure out where the depth in that synopsis came from because it didn’t fit the image of what was in his mind.
Sure, if someone found him in the dorm, they’d been surprised, especially on one of the girls’ floors but he needed to get his mind off Madison and into finding someone to spend the weekend with fast. The only way to do that was to figure her out and stop the questions flowing through him about her. He couldn’t afford to fantasize about one of his students.
Devon knocked on her door and waited but there was no reply. He heard vague sounds of couples up and down the hallway and knocked a bit louder. He was about to leave after getting no reply yet again, but something made him knock on the door even louder; a few moments later it flew open, and he found himself on the receiving end of a rampage.
“I told you to back the hell off. If I wanted to screw…what the hell areyoudoing here?” Madison asked as her brain registered who was in the doorway.
“I wanted to talk to you about your paper.”
“It couldn’t have waited until Monday?” she countered crossing her arms over her chest as she leaned against the doorjamb.
Devon was well aware of the way her action made her breasts stick out further and he began to wonder if she even knew the way she was acting made men want to grab her and screw her—hard. After reading her writing, he didn’t know what to think of her anymore and that was what was bugging him the most.
“I don’t like leaving things,” he stated, stopping when the phone inside the room rang.
Madison closed her eyes sighing as she headed in to answer it. She’d changed her cell number earlier that summer after breaking up with her loser ex, but she’d forgotten that they published the room info online and he had found it instantly. She knew it was going to be him and she wanted to ignore the ringing, but it went on and on until she lifted the receiver.
“What?” she asked motioning for Devon to come in, so the entire floor didn’t hear her business.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Tony demanded.
“Leave me alone asshole, I thought moving ten states away was enough of an indication that I was done let alone the fact that I changed my cell numberandhaven’t responded to a single one of your emails.”
“You’re just mad because I tried to fuck you. Come on Madison, you wanted it.”
“Not from you Tony,” she said well aware that Devon could hear both sides of the conversation as loudly as he was talking. “Besides it doesn’t matter because I found someone new…”
“You’re lying.”
“Am I?” she countered. “Everyone knows what our floor is called Tony. Ask around and they’ll all tell you the same thing; everyone in this dorm and especially my floor are nothing but sluts.”
“I put up with your refusals for three years, wasted threeyearson yourvirginalass and you go off and start banging pricks out there like it’s nothing?” he stated, getting angry and raising his voice even more.
“That’s right Tony. I found someone who was much better than you ever were at sweet talking, and he showed me just how little you knew,” she said boldly though it was all a lie. “You’d be surprised at what I’m doing right now.”
“You’re fucking some dude while on the phone with me? You bitch…slut…we’re done!” he yelled, and the call ended.
Madison sat the receiver back into the cradle and covered her face with her hands trying to drown out the sounds coming from both sides of her room. She was going absolutely mental in this place, but she knew Tony wasn’t about to drive all the way out here and with him thinking she’d started sleeping around he really wouldn’t begin to do it.
Devon stared at her and his assessment of her went up considerably, which spelled trouble for him because it meant his attraction to her wasn’t as self-loathing as he’d originally imagined. He knew what she’d just told the guy over the phone was a lie from the way her eyes darted around the room as she tried to get him to back off. That’s when the sounds really hit him and even he began to grow uncomfortable.
“These walls are really thin, aren’t they?” he stated, breaking the silence.
Madison couldn’t help it…she laughed until the tears stopped and then took a deep breath before she looked up at him. “Tell me about it…look I don’t know what you want to discuss about that paper but there’s no way to do it here.”
“Come on,” he said, “I know a quiet spot we can talk.”
She hesitated for a moment as they arrived at the building, but she figured he wasn’t going to try anything stupid because she’d certainly call the cops if he did.
“Where are we?” she asked as they climbed the stairs.
“It’s my place,” he admitted watching her tense slightly. “I’ve got a copy of the screenplay from the film I want to look at while we talk.”
She nodded still not completely at ease with the idea of going into the guy’s apartment…or duplex as it turned out to be actually. He showed her into the living room and headed to his study taking out the script and her written synopsis as he tried to calm his rampant thoughts. She was mentally and physically exhausted, he’d realized earlier as she’d laughed and cried, and it apparently wasn’t something new.
He wanted her to relax before she snapped, and he did something incredibly stupid like stick his tongue down her throat. He knew if they had another day like today he would the next time her eyes blazed in annoyance, and he didn’t need that. Hopefully, they can come to some sort of agreement, understanding, and go from there.
He got back to the living room and found her studying the titles of movies that lined the shelves. He had eclectic tastes and there was a wide variety, thankfully, his other videos were tucked away inside the cabinet underneath the TV, and she couldn’t see the expanse of his collection of the skin variety.
