“Charlie?” She smiles.

“Um, yeah.” I swallow.

“Kelly told me you were on your way. Come on in, I’ll show you your room. I’m Maggie.” She grabs the bags from me and heads back inside.

“This is a really nice house,” I say once inside.

“Thanks! It’s my parents but they decided to travel the world once they retired so they let Kelly and I stay here.” She shrugged.

“Wow, that must be nice.” I laughed.

“Yeah, it definitely saves us from living in a tiny ass apartment.” She laughed.

“I appreciate you letting me stay.” I clear my throat.

“Oh, girl of course! Kelly told me what happened and you can stay as long as you want. I work from home so you’ll barely see me during the day and Kelly doesn’t get home until like five or so every night so during the week we usually just eat dinner together and that’s it. Other than that you’ll have a lot of space.”

“I don’t even know if I have a job to go back to tomorrow.” I sighed.

“What do you mean?”

“I work for his friend, and once he sees that I’m gone I know he will tell his friend to fire me.” I roll my eyes.

“Well, no worries. You don’t have to worry about paying anything here at least and that can give you some time to find a new job.” She smiled.

“I can’t live here for free.” My eyes widen.

“Why not? We do?” She laughed.

“What?”

“My parents pay for everything since it’s technically their house. Plus I’m a trust fund baby so I have more money than I know what to do with.” She laughed again.

“Oh.” I nod.

“You just worry about you and getting back on your feet for right now. If there’s any food you want just make a list and I’ll have Andy pick it up.”

“Who is Andy?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Well, he’s our butler if you want to call him that. But really he is here to make sure I stay in line and he does all the shopping for us. He is also the best cook you will ever meet. He should be in later today when Kelly gets home. He’s the best. He stays in the guest house out back so if you ever need anything he is your guy. But here’s your room. Fresh towels are in the bathroom.” She smiles and hands me my bags.

Today has been the weirdest day of my life. What the crap.

Chapter Three

Charlie

I set my room up the best I could to make me feel better. I didn’t bring more than I could carry so I had to leave behind most of my photos and things like that. I only brought a photo of Katie and one of Lio and I. Jett didn’t know I still had it. I had it tucked away in a loose floorboard in our closet. I could never bring myself to get rid of it like everything else. Kelly got home a few hours after I got here and came to my room.

“Hey.” She greeted me when she opened the door.

“Hey.” I sighed.

“How are you holding up?” She crossed the room and sat beside me on the bed.

“I don’t know.”

“Yeah, the first few weeks are always the hardest.” She squeezed my thigh.
