“But you did. I’m okay, I’m okay.” I kiss him hard. We hear the sound of sirens and footsteps in the warehouse.
“Police!” We hear someone yell.
“Up here!” Kelly calls out. They turn the corner and I let out a breath. He’s finally going to get what’s coming for him.
“He’s in there.” I point toward the door.
“Hands up!” One of the police men screamed. I follow behind them and see Brad with his hands up as Jett gets to his feet.
“Which one ma’am.” The same police officer asks me.
“That one.” I point to Jett.
“This is all just a big misunderstanding officer.” Jett laughs, straightening out his suit jacket.
“Hands behind your back.” The officer snaps, gun still pointed at Jett.
“I don’t think you understand.” Jett shakes his head.
“I understand perfectly. You’re under arrest.” The officer grabs his arms and puts them behind his back.
Lio grabs onto my shoulder and I spin to face him.
“Are you okay?” I cup his face.
“I’ll be okay.” He tries to reassure me.
“You better be.” My lip trembles as I pull him into me.
“I promise I’m not going anywhere silly girl.” He kisses the top of my head and I sink into his embrace. We’re okay, we’re okay. The tears won’t stop, I sob into his chest.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Lio
When the ambulance comes they insist that I need to be taken to the hospital to get checked out. I don’t think it’s that serious but Charlie agrees with them and there is no telling that girl no. I still can’t wrap my head around today, I knew he would come but I didn’t think he would hurt her. But seeing blood covering her face broke a part of me I don’t think will ever be repaired. I hate myself for not being able to protect her. When I opened the door I expected to see Brad but instead I saw Jett and in a split second he swung at me with something and I was out. I should have been able to protect her, fight him off but I am so damn proud of her for doing what she did. She fought back and we won. He won’t be able to hurt her or anyone else ever again.
“How are you feeling?” Charlie comes into the hospital room holding two coffees.
“Like I was hit by a train but that’s to be expected.” I laugh.
“Yeah a hit to the head like will do that to ya.” She gives me a sad smile.
“How are you feeling?” I grab the coffee from her and set it on the bedside table.
“I’m okay.”
“How are you really?” I ask again.
“I don’t know.” She sighs as she sits in the chair next to my bed.
“Talk to me silly girl.” I reach for her hand.
“I just don’t know, I don’t know how to feel about what happened. I’m happy it’s over and that we’re okay but I was so scared. When I saw you laying on the ground and saw that you were hurt because of me, I.” She chokes on a sob.
“Charlie.” I whisper, squeezing her hand.
“That was a pain I never knew existed and a pain I never want to experience again in my life. I thought I lost you. I thought I lost you after I finally found you again.” Her body shakes with sobs.
