“You good babe?” I call out. No answer.
“Lio?” Kelly’s voice shakes. I grab her hand and we walk around the corner to the front door and see Lio laying on the floor, blood pooling by his head.
“Lio!” I scream as I rush to him, flipping him over and pulling him into my arms.
“What the fuck happened?” Kelly screams.
“Lio!” I try to gently shake him awake but he doesn’t.
“You know, I never thought I would see you here Kelly.” Jett’s icy voice breaks through to us. Our heads snap up to the living room where we just were and Jett stands before us. What the hell.
Chapter Twenty-Four
Charlie
I side-eye Kelly to see if she is seeing what I’m seeing, by her expression, I can tell that I’m not dreaming. I slowly turn to face her and she does the same. I mouth Brad, and she nods slightly. In the next second, she jumps to her feet and runs out the door and down the stairs. I hold onto Lio tighter, keeping my hand on the gash on his head.
“What do you want Jett?” I say through clenched teeth.
“It’s simple really, I came to take back what was mine.” He smiles a sickly smile, making my stomach roll.
“I’m not yours.” I hissed.
“Oh, Char. You will always belong to me.” He shakes his head, sighing.
“No.” I narrow my eyes.
“I knew it wouldn’t take you long to hook up with Lio, it’s why I had to cut him out of your life. I always knew you had feelings for him.” He lets out a bitter laugh.
“Why do you care? We are through Jett, you need to leave.” I scream.
“Not without what is mine. So come, let’s go. I booked us flights home for tonight.” He reaches out his hand like I would really take it. I stare at it in disgust.
“Get. Out.” I say through my clenched teeth.
“Stop being dramatic Char.” He rolls his eyes.
“Stop calling me that, and get the fuck out!” I scream so loud my throat aches.
“Wow, so she does have a little fire in her still.” He laughs.
“Why me? Why?” Tears sting my eyes.
“Because you have always been mine and you always will be. You think he can provide for you? You think he loves you?” He laughs.
“I don’t want him to provide for me, Jett. I want his love which he willingly gives me every single day unlike you.” I throw back.
“He doesn’t love you Charlie. No one will. You are nothing more than a waste of space.” He screams.
“Then what the fuck do you want with me?” Tears streamed down my face.
“Because you are mine and I know I own your heart, not him.”
“The heart you’ve borrowed never belonged to you, it was always his.” I hissed.
“Don’t be naive.” He rolls his head, walking over toward the kitchen and grabbing my wine glass off the counter, drinking what was left. He’s out of sight now and I make the decision to drag Lio out of the door. This is my fight, I don’t want him getting hurt again because of me. As I get him out of the apartment and in the hallway I’m pulled back by my hair. I scream out in pain.
“Not so fast.” Jett hisses.
