Page 139 of Choosing Their Omega

I’m one hundred percent goading him. If I can get him so angry he loses control and admits to something, then I can cut through all the legal bullshit because they’ll have confessed.

I won’t let these men get in the way of the dream career of my Alphas. My Alphas are protective of me, but I’m protective of them. Nobody uses me to ruin something for my men. Nobody.

“Please, could everyone just sit down and take a few deep breaths,” the mediator said. “The exchange of insults like this won’t be tolerated. We’re not children.”

“You need to learn to watch your mouth,” the captain snaps, ignoring the mediator. “I’m going to back down when she backs down, and gets off her high horse.”

“It’s pathetic,” I inform him. “How you’re all such terrible players that you had to rely on cheating to win against the Titans. We’re going to prove it, we’re going to follow the money, and the whole world is going to know what losers you all are.”

“You can’t follow the money,” the captain shoots right back at me.

I burst into laughter, mocking him, and one of the assistant captains snaps, “That’s why you use cash, bitch.”

The last word has Lawson launching himself forward and both Cruz and Knox have to hold him back, but I don’t care that I was just so wildly insulted. I don’t care at all. In fact, I’m grinning.

Because while we told them that we know they paid Gary off, we never said it was in cash payments.

I can see the moment that everyone else figures it out. Our lawyers’ faces light up, while the lawyers for the Grizzlies look furious and shocked. The NHL representatives look like they’re not even sure that just really happened.

“What was that about cash?” I ask brightly.

The Grizzlies captain glares at me, but immediately all four of my men step forward and close ranks.

“Sounds to me,” one of our lawyers says, “that these gentlemen know more than they previously acknowledged. If you’ll recall the statement you read from the driver…”

One of the NHL representatives holds up his hand to stop him. “Yes, I recall.” He looks at the Grizzlies players. “How did you know that the driver was paid in cash?”

All three men look sullen, not knowing how to answer.

“This isn’t the first time they’ve done this,” Cruz says. “They goaded Lawson into basically getting kicked out of the game and they did it by insulting Lily then too. The driver is willing to testify if we felt like taking these guys to court.”

“Yes. It’s clear that you’re telling the truth and this is a pattern. I think we’ll have to take a look at previous incidents on the ice, as well.” The representative stands up and looks at his colleagues. “I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say that all three of you are banned from the NHL for unsportsmanlike conduct. And we’ll be sure to investigate the rest of your team too.”

“If any of them are proven to have been involved in this scheme,” another representative adds, “then they’ll be banned as well.”

The Grizzlies players look shocked, and maybe even a little like they might try to physically fight the NHL reps. But their lawyers stand and nod, apparently knowing when not to argue.

When the guys you pay to find legal loopholes for you, and literally argue with others for a living, throw in the towel then you know that you’re sunk.

The lawyers escort the Grizzlies players out of the room, and I feel my legs give out as the nerves finally overtake me.

Miles catches me around the waist. “Careful there.”

“I wasn’t sure that would work,” I admit.

“You were brilliant.”

We speak to the NHL representatives for a moment, confirming everything, then we head down to get to our car. But when we exit the building, the Grizzlies players are still there.

Talking to the cops.

A slow smile stretches across my face as I realize these three men are about to get arrested. They paid someone to hurt me. That’s definitely illegal.

Lawson rolls his shoulders and glances at Cruz, who smirks and nods. Lawson marches right over. “Hey, assholes.”

He winds up and decks the captain across the face. I wince a little, even as I grin. I’m pretty sure that Lawson just broke the man’s nose.

“That’s for talking shit about my Omega,” Lawson snarls. “You keep her name out of your filthy mouth from now on.”
