Page 103 of Choosing Their Omega

“They might.” My heart races. “Would that be okay with you? If they thought that?”

Ben nods.

My eyes get misty but I try not to let any tears spill over. I don’t want to alarm him by how much this means to me. “I’m so glad to hear that, sweetheart. It makes me really happy. I’d like it if people thought of us as family too.”

I would never ask him to think of me as a new mother. That’s not something I’m comfortable with yet. I hope that someday he volunteers that on his own, but I can’t ever push him. He lost his mother at such a young age and while I’m coming to see Ben as my own, I won’t cross a line he isn’t ready for.

To know that he thinks of me as family and wants people to see us as such… it makes me want to burst into tears of joy. I manage to hold it all in and stand up. “Shall we show your uncles how handsome you look?”

Ben sighs. “I don’t look very handsome. I look silly.”

“We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one, bud. I think you look great.”

I take his hand and lead him down the stairs to the foyer where the Alphas are waiting. They all look fantastic in their black suits, going for sleek and classic. I can still sense their personal styles in their outfits, though.

Lawson’s gone without a tie too, and undone several of his shirt buttons, giving him a rakish air, while Knox has gone double-breasted, closed-off. Miles has a splash of color with a blue tie and pocket square, while Cruz has a red shirt on underneath rather than a white one.

All four of them stare at me with heat in their eyes as Ben and I come down the stairs. I smile, my face flushing, but I know that we won’t do anything right now. Ben’s here, and we have to go or we’ll be late.

I can’t help teasing them a little, though. “Like it?” I turn a little so they can take in the long flowing skirt and the low back.

Lawson wolf-whistles appreciatively and I grin. All four men look like they want to devour me, and I admit I’m tempted to ask them to do it, but… no. We have to focus.

“You look beautiful,” Miles says earnestly as Cruz comes up and offers me his arm.

I take Cruz’s arm and Knox takes Ben, and we head out to the auction.

“Oh, no,” I groan with a laugh as we exit. “Really?”

There’s a limo waiting for us.

Cruz kisses me on the cheek. “We wanted to go all out, get a little fancy.”

Ben squirms in Knox’s arms, excited by the fancy car. Knox chuckles and carries him over. “Yeah, we’re having a fancy ride tonight.”

We all get in and Cruz signals for the driver to head out.

Of course, it’s only once we’re in the limo and moving down the street that I realize I forgot my damn hair clips. I had a really nice pair, some big sparkling ones that match my earrings, but I completely forgot to grab them in time. I got distracted by helping Ben.

Before I can even say anything, or think to ask if we might be able to turn back, all four men reach into their pockets and pull out a hair clip.

Not just regular hair clips either. Each one is lovely, a statement jewelry piece.

I can feel my face heating up. I didn’t expect any of them to keep that kind of item on them when they’re dressed up fancy to head to a charity auction.

But they still thought to get clips. Clips that will look beautiful and not out of place at a fancy charity auction. They made sure they all have one on them for me.

Miles smiles. “What, you thought we wouldn’t be prepared for you?”

I take each of their clips and arrange them in my hair. “You didn’t have to. These are lovely.”

“Maybe we didn’t have to.” Knox levels me with an intense look that I can’t escape. “But we wanted to.”

“We want to take care of you, sunshine.” Cruz smiles warmly. “When are you going to realize that?”

“I think I’m realizing it now,” I admit with a soft laugh.

I want to apologize, because I’m genuinely just not used to having a family who looks after me. I’m so used to being alone. But I know that my Alphas understand, and I feel like there’s no need to be sorry. They’re just being there for me, and they’ll keep being there for me.
